Streamlining VoIP Calls on Android
For users who frequently engage in VoIP calls through popular applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, or Messenger on their Android devices, a new feature is set to enhance the calling experience significantly. Google has been diligently testing a functionality that will enable users to dial contacts directly from their default phone dialer app, and it appears that the rollout is imminent under the Calling accounts domain.
According to reports from Android Authority, the feature has been successfully implemented on a Pixel 9 running the latest Android Canary 2605 build. Within the settings of the Phone by Google app—the native dialer for Pixel devices—users can now find the Calling accounts feature.
This innovative addition introduces an option that allows third-party applications to integrate into the call history. As a result, users will have the convenience of dialing their contacts directly from the native phone app, eliminating the need to switch to the VoIP application from which the call originated.
The functionality leverages Android’s telecom framework, enabling third-party apps to register their calls seamlessly. This means that VoIP calls will be displayed alongside traditional cellular calls, providing a unified calling experience. The feature is expected to be accessible on any device operating on Android 16.1 and above.
