Google Maps has recently enhanced its incident reporting feature, originally introduced last year, by expanding the types of incidents users can report. This update is now visible to select users on both the mobile app and Android Auto, indicating a significant step towards improving driver awareness and safety.
These incident reports function similarly to the well-established system in Waze, allowing drivers to alert others about various road hazards such as crashes or obstacles. While some may find these notifications a bit distracting, they undeniably add a layer of utility for those navigating busy roads.
New Weather-Related Reporting Options
According to observations from Android Police, Google Maps is currently testing several new weather-related incident reporting options. These include:
- Flooded road
- Low visibility
- Unplowed road
These new reporting options will appear after the existing “Stalled vehicle” option, while the “Police” report has been moved out of the main view. Although this feature has not yet been rolled out to all users, it certainly holds promise for enhancing the driving experience.
This update marks the second enhancement to the incident reporting feature, following a previous adjustment in November that simplified the reporting of speed traps to a more general “Police” option. As Google continues to refine its Maps application, users can look forward to a more comprehensive and user-friendly navigation experience.
