Android 17 QPR1 Begins Rollout for Google Pixel Devices
After a thorough beta testing phase, Android 17 QPR1 is now making its debut on Google Pixel devices, coinciding with the September 2026 Feature Drop and security patch. This update brings a host of interface enhancements designed to elevate user experience.
One of the most noticeable changes is the introduction of enhanced blur effects throughout the system UI. Users will find the volume panel particularly transformed, showcasing a Dynamic Color-themed translucency. Additionally, the Power menu has received a fresh look, complete with a background blur that aligns with the updates seen in the widgets picker during the initial Android 17 June release.
The system media player has also undergone a significant redesign, now featuring a Material 3 carousel-based interface that displays previews of other open applications. This replaces the previous dot indicators, allowing for a more intuitive navigation experience as your current card shrinks to accommodate the new layout.
Quick Settings has been updated with a playful new bouncy animation, complemented by a newly added icon in the bottom-right corner for easy edits. Notably, the Mobile Data Tile now includes a “Don’t ask me again” toggle, enhancing user control. A new QS Tile for “Keyboard” has also been introduced, providing quick access to the system switcher, while the Screen recording tool now defaults to the last-used application for added convenience.
In terms of app management, long-pressing on homescreen apps now reveals a split menu that distinguishes between app Shortcuts and system Actions, such as Bubble and Widgets. Furthermore, an updated fast wallpaper switcher appears when holding down on an empty homescreen spot, featuring more pronounced corner rounding and a streamlined menu layout.

The rollout of Android 17 QPR1 begins today for a wide range of Pixel devices, including the Pixel 6 series, Pixel 7 series, Pixel 8 series, and beyond. To check for the update, users can navigate to Settings > System > System update and select the “Check for update” option if the OTA has not yet appeared on their device. Those who participated in the Android 17 QPR1 Beta 9 will receive a minor update to transition to this final release.
The Android Beta Program will remain active, continuing to test future QPRs and feature drops. For users currently on the Android 17 QPR1 Beta, opting out is necessary to receive the stable version, which will not wipe devices during the transition to the widely available OTA.
