Google’s May 2025 Pixel update is here with bug fixes and a critical security patch

What you need to know

The May 2025 security update is now being deployed for Google Pixel devices, commencing on May 6. This update is particularly significant as it addresses a critical zero-day security vulnerability, alongside three additional bug fixes and a total of 28 security patches that enhance the integrity of Android and Google services.

  • The rollout may take approximately one week to reach all Pixel phones and tablets, influenced by device models and carrier specifics. Users are strongly encouraged to update their devices promptly.
  • Among the vulnerabilities addressed is the zero-day exploit identified as CVE-2025-27363, which has shown signs of limited, targeted exploitation. This underlines the urgency for users to install the update as soon as it becomes available.

In a proactive measure, the update also includes enhancements to prevent devices from reverting to previous, vulnerable versions of the bootloader. Once the May 2025 update is installed, users will be unable to flash and boot older Android 15 builds.

    • Resolution of pairing issues with select smartwatches under specific conditions.
  • Framework
    • Correction of secondary language display issues in quick settings under certain scenarios.
