How to remove your activity from Gemini

Gemini is rapidly establishing itself as a cornerstone of the Android ecosystem, showcasing an impressive array of features. This AI-powered chatbot from Google is not just a tool for conversation; it can summarize lengthy texts, generate images from descriptions, and continually learns from user interactions. However, with its capacity to retain both textual and spoken data by default, concerns about digital privacy may arise for some users. Fortunately, Google has made it straightforward to manage and remove your activity from Gemini.

How to remove your activity from Gemini

To begin, navigate to Gemini’s web app. Once there, click on the hamburger icon located in the top left corner to reveal the slide-out menu. From this menu, select the Activity option.

  1. On the subsequent page, find the Delete button (marked with a drop-down arrow) under the Gemini Apps Activity section.
  2. Choose the time frame for deletion: options include Last hour, Last day, All time, or a Custom range.
  3. For more granular control, you can delete activity from a specific day or even remove individual activities by tapping the X icon next to them.

Turning off activity from being saved and changing auto-deletion settings

  1. Select the Turn off button (with the drop-down arrow) next to the Gemini Apps Activity section. You will be presented with two choices: either stop saving activity or delete existing saved activity as well.
  2. To adjust auto-deletion settings, click the arrow next to Deleting activity older than X months. Here, you can specify a retention period of 3, 18, or 36 months before automatic deletion occurs. Follow the on-screen instructions to finalize your choice, or opt to disable auto-deletion entirely.

Note: The options for managing activity settings remain consistent whether accessed via a computer or through the Gemini app.

How to delete Gemini chat in Google Messages

  2. Confirm the deletion by tapping Delete again when prompted.

Take better control of your Gemini activity

As AI-driven chatbots become increasingly integral to our daily interactions with technology, Gemini is poised to lead the charge. Already the default virtual assistant for the Google Pixel 9 series, it is expected to be pre-installed on many of the top Android devices in the near future. While the potential for Gemini’s capabilities is exciting, understanding how it manages your data is equally important. Google has streamlined the process of removing your activity, ensuring that users maintain control over their information. Whether you wish to delete specific interactions or clear all saved data, the process is efficient and user-friendly, with options for automatic deletion based on your preferences.
