Nothing has officially rolled out the open beta for Nothing OS 4.0, a fresh iteration built on the foundation of Android 16. This update is now accessible for users of the Nothing Phone 2, Phone 3, and the Phone 2a series, marking a significant step in the company’s software evolution.
New Features and Enhancements
The Nothing OS 4.0 beta introduces an array of features designed to enhance user experience. Among the highlights are:
- A new quick setting tile size of 2×2, allowing for more efficient access to settings.
- Two new lock screen clock faces, adding a touch of personalization.
- An Extra Dark Mode, catering to users who prefer a more subdued interface.
- Support for Essential Apps, enabling the creation of shareable widgets through the Playground portal.
For those utilizing the Nothing Phone 3, the software supports up to six Essential Apps widgets, while other models can accommodate up to two. These limitations are described as temporary measures to ensure optimal performance, with plans to expand them in future updates.
Additionally, the Nothing Phone 3 will benefit from an “AI usage dashboard” within Essential Space, designed to monitor “large model activity.” Users can also expect enhancements addressing Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi stability, display brightness, and camera functionality.
The Nothing OS 4.0 beta also extends its features to the Nothing Phone 2, Phone 2a, and Phone 2a Plus, introducing the “Stretch” camera preset and app optimizations aimed at improving startup speeds.
As the tech landscape continues to evolve, Nothing is poised to keep pace with its latest offerings, ensuring that its devices remain competitive and user-friendly. The open beta for the Nothing Phone 3a series is anticipated to launch soon in October, further expanding the reach of this innovative software.
