In a significant advancement for user privacy and control, Snapseed has become the inaugural app to integrate the newly introduced location metadata API within Android’s Photo Picker. With the latest version of Snapseed (v4.1.5.970833206), users will now encounter a prompt when selecting an image for editing through the Photo Picker. This prompt inquires whether they wish to include the image’s location information, thereby empowering users to make informed decisions regarding their sensitive metadata.
Additionally, a floating toggle for location information appears in the bottom-right corner of the Photo Picker interface. This feature allows users to swiftly enable or disable access to location data, with a clear crossed-out icon indicating when location data is not being shared. This functionality is particularly beneficial for those who may reconsider their initial choice after the prompt.
The introduction of this API is a welcome development, especially considering that many photo editing applications on Android typically remove location data.
