In a notable update for users of YouTube TV on Android devices, the platform has introduced a revamped miniplayer that embraces a picture-in-picture style. This enhancement follows the recent updates made to the main YouTube app, signaling a cohesive evolution across the YouTube ecosystem.
Previously, the miniplayer was anchored to the bottom bar, displaying the program name alongside a progress bar. Users were met with a wide crop of the content, accompanied by play/pause controls positioned to the right. This interface mirrored the older YouTube app experience and the existing controls found in YouTube Music.
The newly designed miniplayer now functions as an in-app picture-in-picture window. The user interface has been streamlined, featuring play/pause controls flanked by 15-second rewind and skip buttons, with a close option conveniently located in the corner. A simple tap on the center button allows users to expand the view, enhancing accessibility.
Similar to the main YouTube app, the miniplayer supports pinch-to-zoom functionality, enabling users to stretch the player to span the full width of their screen. While the default size remains relatively compact, this new layout significantly improves usability compared to the previous narrow display.
This update is being rolled out with version 8.47.0 of YouTube TV for Android, a move that many users may find unsurprising yet welcome. By aligning the miniplayer experience across YouTube’s various applications, the platform has made it more enjoyable for users to navigate the app while simultaneously watching their favorite shows.
