Enhanced Control: Google’s New Remote Uninstall Feature for Android Apps

Previously, Google enabled users to install apps on their Android devices remotely via the Play Store from a Windows PC. Building on this functionality, the tech giant is now rolling out the capability to remove apps without having to physically access each device. The remote uninstallation option was first noticed in 2023 and is gradually becoming available to more users. To take advantage of this feature, ensure that you are signed in with the same Google account on all the devices you wish to manage.
- Begin by opening the Play Store on your Android phone.
- Click on your profile icon located in the top right corner.
- Select “Manage apps & device” from the menu.
- On the following screen, hit “Manage”.
- Choose the app you wish to remove from the provided list.
- Click on “This Device” to reveal the list of devices where the app is installed.
- Pick the device from which you want to uninstall the app.
- Press the Trash icon at the top to initiate the uninstallation process.
- Confirm your action to proceed with the deletion.
- The app will then be removed from the selected device.
Users with Google TV will find this update particularly beneficial. Selecting and managing apps through a phone interface is significantly more user-friendly than navigating the TV’s menu with a remote control.
It’s important to note that this feature is not accessible when attempting to uninstall apps via a browser on a PC. Additionally, as the rollout is happening in stages, some may need to wait until the feature is available for their device or region.
