Vertical App Drawer for Samsung Galaxy devices confirmed again

Upcoming Changes to Samsung Galaxy’s App Drawer

In a move that will delight many Samsung enthusiasts, the company is poised to introduce vertical scrolling to the app drawer on its Galaxy devices. This anticipated feature aligns with a common preference among Android users and marks a shift from Samsung’s previous use of horizontal scrolling—a distinctive choice that set its interface apart from competitors.

The app drawer serves as a central repository for all installed applications, and while Samsung’s unique horizontal approach offered a point of differentiation, the tide is turning. Users have long expressed their desire for a more conventional vertical scroll, which is the standard across most Android platforms.

Native Integration into One UI’s Horizon

Although Samsung’s Good Lock app, with its “Home Up” module, previously provided a workaround for users to enable vertical scrolling, the feature was mysteriously removed. This led to some dissatisfaction among the Galaxy community. However, recent communications from a Good Lock official have shed light on the change. The vertical app drawer is being readied for integration into the operating system itself, as part of the forthcoming update.

An official associated with Good Lock development stated, “Please note that the Home Up vertical list function is currently being prepared for support in the next OS version.” This clarification has provided clarity and anticipation for what’s to come.

Potential Release with One UI 6.1.1

Speculation suggests that the vertical scrolling feature could debut with the One UI 6.1.1 update, potentially launching as early as July. This would be a welcome surprise for users who were expecting to wait for the One UI 7 update based on Android 15.

While some may argue that maintaining the vertical scrolling option within the “Home Up” module would have been preferable in the interim, the integration into the OS indicates a more seamless and permanent solution is on the horizon. With the update possibly coinciding with the release of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, Samsung users have a summer of enhancements to look forward to.
