Handing your smartphone to someone? This Android feature can keep your private apps and photos locked away

Android's App Pinning feature allows users to temporarily lock their device to a single application, preventing access to other apps and personal data. To enable App Pinning, users need to go to Settings, navigate to Security or Security & privacy, find App pinning, and toggle it on. To pin an app, open the desired app, access the Recent apps/Overview screen, tap the app icon, and select Pin. To unpin the app, swipe up and hold or press and hold the Back and Overview buttons, entering a PIN if required. App Pinning helps protect personal data when lending the phone.

Google Clock rolls out redesign of Timers with presets on Android

Google Clock has introduced a redesigned Timers tab with a fresh design and new app icon. The update includes preset timers for 1, 5, 10, and 15 minutes, which can be started with a tap. The interface now uses full labels for Hours, Minutes, and Seconds instead of abbreviations. A green "Start" button has replaced the former icon, and the number pad has a flatter appearance without circular backgrounds. The layout for multiple timers has been changed to a grid format for better navigation, while the single timer design remains the same with a repositioned pause button and a reset option outside the countdown. This redesign is part of a server-side update linked to version 9.1 of Google Clock. Users may need to force stop the app to see the changes.

Android Auto’s Icon Just Got A New Look – And A Major Update Is Next

The Android Auto app icon has been visually refreshed, changing from a soft blue to a deeper green shade and featuring smoothed edges. This update is part of the upcoming Material 3 update, although Google has not officially announced it. Users may already see the updated icon with the latest app version. The project was conceived as early as 2024 and aimed to redefine user engagement with technology, focusing on education, entertainment, and task completion. It utilized a streamlined Windows codebase called Win3, which was lighter than Windows 11 but lacked support for legacy Win32 apps. Aion featured a personalized dashboard with task cards and app icons for both Microsoft and third-party applications. It was intended to run on various AI-focused devices and aimed to create a versatile operating system adaptable to different hardware configurations. Key features included a conversational user experience, an "Ask me anything" box for queries, and "Spaces" for project organization. Despite its innovative design, Aion was primarily aimed at enterprise use and faced limitations due to the absence of traditional desktop applications. Samsung phones could finally get proper app lock with One UI 9.5

Samsung's One UI 9.5 will introduce an app lock feature that enhances user privacy by allowing applications to be secured with a PIN or biometric authentication. Users can activate the app lock by pressing and holding an app icon in the app drawer, where a padlock icon will appear.
