Developers of SharpEmu, an experimental open-source PS5 emulator, have achieved playable frame rates of 60 FPS for six out of 55 tested PS5 titles. The six titles that reached this milestone are Dreaming Sarah, Void Terrarium, New Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninja, Tetris Forever, Hoa, and Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered. This achievement coincides with the release of SharpEmu v0.0.4-release.2, which includes improvements such as enhanced SPIR-V shader translation and updated Vulkan API support. SharpEmu is compatible with Windows, Linux, and macOS, and utilizes Vulkan and MoltenVK for graphics API calls. The emulator leverages the PlayStation 5's AMD Zen 2 x86-64 CPU to execute console CPU instructions natively on PCs. Currently, only 12 of the 55 tested titles are in a game-ready state, with six playable at 60 FPS. SharpEmu is intended for research and educational purposes and does not include copyrighted system firmware or game data. Additionally, another emulator, KytyPS5, has run the PS5 version of GTA V at approximately 40 to 60 FPS, though it experienced crashes after the opening mission.

Users of Windows PCs with AMD Radeon GPUs, including models such as RX 6600, RX 7700 XT, RX 7800 XT, RX 7900 GRE, RX 7900 XTX, and RX 9070 XT, may experience persistent issues until October 13th, 2026. These issues include error messages in Device Manager (Code 10), absence of audio output, unresponsive volume controls, inaccessible sound settings, and failures in multi-channel or 3D audio features. Additional problems reported are driver timeouts, black screens, missing displays, and system crashes. Issues with File Explorer and File History have emerged after September's Patch Tuesday updates, affecting the creation and accessibility of backups. Some problems have been resolved through an emergency update, including fixes for Claude Cowork and Remote Desktop Services, and a misleading Defender warning.

For nearly two months, Windows 11 users received persistent notifications from the Windows Security app falsely indicating that Microsoft Defender was disabled, despite it functioning properly. This issue, which began in early August, has been addressed with a security update from Microsoft. The false alerts affected all versions of Windows 11, Windows Server, and Windows 10, and were linked to a bug introduced with a recent Defender security update. Microsoft confirmed that no manual action is required from users to resolve the issue, as the fix will be automatically deployed to all PCs with mandatory security updates enabled. The problem was resolved in the Microsoft Defender Antivirus update (version 4.18.26080.4), released on September 17, 2026. Users can verify the status of Defender by checking Windows Security or using a PowerShell command.

On September 14, 2026, Microsoft released KB5129195, an out-of-band cumulative update for Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2, transitioning systems to build 26100.9457 for 24H2 and 26200.9457 for 25H2. The update addresses several regressions, including failed connections and sign-ins in Remote Desktop Services, host-folder sharing failures in Plan9 file sharing for HCS-managed Linux virtual machines, and failures affecting 8-channel and 3D-audio modes in USB Audio Class 1.0. However, it does not fix ongoing issues with AMD Radeon graphics cards, such as freezes, black screens, and driver timeouts, which have affected various hardware configurations. KB5129195 is available through multiple distribution channels, including Windows Update and WSUS.

Microsoft announced on September 14 that the Windows 11 24H2 edition, including Home and Pro versions, has only 30 days of support remaining, with a deadline for updates set for October 13, 2026. Users are encouraged to upgrade to version 25H2 or later to continue receiving security updates. The Enterprise and Education editions will have support until October 12, 2027. Users have reported issues from September's security updates, particularly with the Office patch KB5002914, which disrupts the copy-and-paste function in Excel across multiple versions. Microsoft has acknowledged the issue but has not yet released a fix. A temporary workaround involves manually removing the problematic patch, though this also removes the associated security fixes. Additionally, users have experienced connection drops and unresponsiveness in Remote Desktop Services (RDS) across various Windows versions, including Windows 11 26H1 and Windows Server 2012. Microsoft confirmed that related tools may also stop responding, and restarting virtual machines may temporarily restore functionality. USB audio issues have been reported on certain USB Audio Class 1.0 devices across Windows 11 versions, with users experiencing loss of audio output and corrupted sound settings. Switching to 2-channel mode has helped some users, but Microsoft has not provided a timeline for a comprehensive fix. As Windows Server 2012 nears the end of its Extended Security Updates period on October 13, 2026, the RDS issues add pressure on administrators. Users on 24H2 need to prioritize migration to 25H2, while those with the latest updates should be cautious regarding Excel and Remote Desktop functionalities.

Microsoft has released an out-of-band update to address issues from its recent Windows 11 patch, which introduced new features and fixed nearly 1,000 security vulnerabilities. The September 2026 update includes a movable taskbar, a transformed Start menu with configurable layouts, improved Windows Search, and updates to File Explorer showing file sizes in various units. However, users with AMD Radeon GPUs are experiencing crashes due to driver instability, and reinstalling the driver has not resolved the issue. Microsoft did not address AMD GPUs in its communication. Additionally, there are ongoing problems with audio output and microphone input, with some audio devices starting up with incorrect configurations. A temporary workaround for audio issues has been provided. Lenovo users are reporting black screens or sudden shutdowns linked to power management issues.

Microsoft has released an emergency patch for Windows 11, identified as KB5129195, which is being automatically downloaded to address critical issues, including privilege elevation vulnerabilities. The patch fixes CVE-2026-62721 and resolves remote desktop connection problems, as well as attempts to address USB audio issues that arose after the September update. Improvements have been noted for 8-channel and 3D audio modes, but users may still face problems such as missing volume controls and lack of audio output for some USB audio devices. Additionally, unresolved issues from the September update, KB5124008, persist, particularly for AMD Radeon GPU users experiencing system freezes, crashes, and driver timeouts. Complaints about File Explorer crashing or failing to launch have also been reported, affecting certain enterprise environments. Microsoft is using internal AI tools to enhance security, but this has led to a cycle of instability in the operating system. Nearly 1,000 CVE patches were applied just before this update.

Microsoft's September security update for Windows 11, KB5124008, is causing audio issues with USB audio devices, including unresponsive sound controls and lack of audio output. The problems are linked to USB Audio Class 1.0 devices and do not affect built-in motherboard audio codecs or wireless headsets. Users may see an error message “This device cannot start (Code 10)” in Device Manager logs. Microsoft is working on a fix, and users can temporarily switch to stereo settings for relief. Additionally, the update is causing gameplay disruptions, crashes, and other bugs, prompting users to report issues to Microsoft and consider pausing updates.
