Many Google apps could pick up a fresh gradient icon redesign

Google is redesigning its app icons to adopt a more vibrant and gradient-centric aesthetic, moving away from its traditional minimalist style. WhatsApp working on Android notification bubble support instead of Facebook’s wonky ‘Chat Heads’

WhatsApp Web themes might soon come to save us from boring gray bubbles

China Blocked Jack Dorsey’s Decentralized Messenger bitchat

Chinese authorities have ordered the removal of Jack Dorsey’s decentralized messaging app, bitchat, from the local App Store due to concerns about its potential to disrupt information control during civil unrest. Apple complied by removing both the main and beta versions of the app. The app remains accessible outside of China. Dorsey stated that the removal reflects bitchat's influence on public discourse. The Chinese regulator cited violations of regulations that require online services capable of swaying public opinion to undergo security reviews before launch. Bitchat operates independently of traditional internet infrastructure using Bluetooth and mesh networking technology, making it resistant to censorship. It has gained attention in regions with internet restrictions and was introduced in July 2025. Bitchat has over 3 million downloads, with more than 92,000 in the past week and over 1 million installs on Google Play. Additionally, Block, the parent company, recently reduced its workforce by about 40%, equating to around 4,000 employees, due to AI implementation and process optimization.

Android 17: Google Finally Brought This Useful Trick to Every App

Android 17 improves the camera experience and apps for foldables and tablets

Google announced plans for the beta release of Android 17, which has been delayed without official clarification. Key features of Android 17 include a new policy for app orientation and size, requiring developers to support resizing and windowed multitasking. Firefox looking into Android bug sending users back a page

Many Firefox users on Android are experiencing a glitch where the browser unexpectedly navigates back to the previous page while reading, often returning them to Google search results. This issue occurs after a page has fully loaded, with users reporting it happens approximately 50% to 70% of the time. The bug can cause Firefox to jump back two or three pages, disrupting browsing history. Standard troubleshooting methods have not resolved the issue, which appears linked to clicking links from Google search results. Mozilla's mobile engineering team is aware of the problem and is tracking it through a bug report on Bugzilla. Initial tests by Mozilla's Quality Assurance team did not replicate the issue, but many affected users are on Samsung Galaxy phones with Android 16 and One UI 8.0. The problem coincides with recent updates to Firefox, and users have found a temporary workaround by opening links in new tabs. Mozilla is encouraging users to test Firefox Nightly and Beta versions and is collecting logs from affected devices to investigate further.
