Nothing OS 5.0 and Android 17 Arrive on Phone (3)

Nothing OS 5.0 and Android 17 updates for the Phone (3) have begun rolling out after a beta testing phase that started in August 2026. The rollout will be staged and vary by region. Google app’s Search Live is gearing up for a design overhaul

The Google app's Search Live feature is being redesigned to improve user experience. The latest beta version 17.64.13 introduces a more versatile camera view, allowing users to minimize and reposition the camera window, and eliminates the glow effect around the video feed. The new design features a compact viewfinder with a grab handle for easy minimization. The Transcript button appears to be missing, but transcripts can still be accessed through the AI Mode search history page. Additionally, playful bubble animations have been added to indicate when Search Live is listening and responding. The timeline for a broader rollout of these features is uncertain.

Gemini could take a leaf out of ChatGPT’s book for this design update

The Google Gemini app is testing a new camera interface in version 17.55.8, which will allow the viewfinder to occupy half of the screen while keeping chat contents visible. This design is inspired by the ChatGPT mobile app and includes a floating viewfinder, a handle for expanding or minimizing the viewfinder, and a redesigned camera shutter key. The camera switcher will be relocated to the three-dot menu. Additionally, the '@' menu is being revamped to potentially hide disabled apps and may be renamed "Connectors," featuring a wider layout and an option to "Connect apps." The Avatars section will allow users to showcase existing avatars and add new ones. These updates are currently in testing and may not be rolled out to the public.
