Google app’s Search Live is gearing up for a design overhaul

The Google app’s Search Live feature, which allows users to obtain real-time answers through voice commands and camera input, is undergoing a thoughtful redesign aimed at enhancing user experience. Currently, the full-screen camera interface can obscure essential UI elements, prompting Google to refocus the design on delivering answers more effectively.

Revamped Camera Interface

In the latest beta version 17.64.13 of the Google app, users can expect a more versatile camera view within Search Live. This update introduces the ability to minimize the camera window and reposition it around the screen’s corners, providing a less intrusive experience. Additionally, the glow effect surrounding the video feed has been eliminated, further streamlining the interface.

Rather than dominating the screen, the upcoming design features a compact viewfinder equipped with a grab handle for easy minimization. This change aligns with trends observed in other applications, such as the ChatGPT app, which has also adopted a similar approach to its viewfinder functionality.

Changes in Functionality

One notable alteration is the apparent disappearance of the Transcript button. While it remains unclear whether this feature has been permanently removed or simply relocated within the app, users can still access transcripts through the AI Mode search history page, which is conveniently found via the hamburger menu icon in the upper left corner of the updated viewfinder.

Moreover, the redesign introduces playful bubble animations at the bottom of the interface, enhancing the visual feedback when Search Live is actively listening and responding to queries. This design element was first spotted in early September and is now being integrated into the overall user experience.

While these enhancements promise to elevate the Search Live experience, the timeline for a broader rollout of these features remains uncertain. As with any app development, changes are subject to refinement and may not always reach public release. Nevertheless, the ongoing improvements reflect Google’s commitment to evolving its services in response to user needs.
