Ledger unveils $849 device built to protect your phone

Ledger has introduced Ledger Atom, a security device designed to enhance the protection of sensitive digital activities while allowing the use of everyday applications. It operates on an open-source Android platform for regular apps and a security-focused operating system for sensitive operations, utilizing a secure element chip and a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) for communication between the two environments. Ledger Atom features an integration with OpenClaw, an AI agent platform, which allows AI agents to suggest actions but requires physical approval for sensitive operations. It includes a physical privacy switch that cuts power to the device's cameras and microphones, and supports GPG/OpenPGP encryption for messages. Ledger Atom is positioned as a quantum-ready signing device with post-quantum cryptography and anti-tampering measures. Reservations for a limited Founder’s Edition are open at a price of 9, with an expected launch in summer 2027, pending necessary certifications.

Ledger Atom puts everyday Android apps behind a hardware security layer

Ledger has introduced the Ledger Atom, an Android device designed to enhance the security of crypto transactions, AI actions, and private communications, priced at USD 9 and expected to launch in summer 2027. It functions as a security-centric companion rather than a smartphone replacement, combining Android with Ledger OS and a secure element chip. The device features a mode switch between Standard Mode and Secure Mode, with operations in Secure Mode isolated from Android. Ledger Atom will support physical approval for AI agent actions, requiring user consent on the device before proceeding. It will also serve as the interface and signer for Ledger Wallet, allowing users to manage crypto transactions securely. The device supports GPG/OpenPGP encryption for messaging and includes a physical privacy switch to disable cameras and microphones. Ledger Atom is currently available for reservation in a limited Founder’s Edition, requiring a refundable deposit, and includes a Bitcoin voucher and three months of Ledger Recover upon launch. Delivery will depend on product certifications, including FCC approval.

Modder adds full local co-op to Resident Evil 2 remake on PC

A PC modder has created a mod for Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake that introduces local co-op functionality, allowing two players to control their own characters instead of just having a computer-controlled ally. The mod, called Local Couch Co-op, was developed by Shopcreeper01 and offers various character selections, each with unique inventories and HUD elements. It supports both shared-screen and split-screen display modes and requires the Steam version of Resident Evil 2 along with REFramework. The mod is exclusive to PC users. Additionally, it features an experimental mode inspired by Capcom’s upcoming title, Pragmata, where one player manages movement and the other focuses on aiming and shooting.

Someone ported Pixel 11’s Rambler voice-to-text to other Android phones

Google's Pixel 11 and the Googlebook feature the Rambler voice-to-text functionality, which uses AI to improve traditional voice-to-text capabilities by refining spoken words into coherent text with proper grammar and formatting. Rambler is currently exclusive to the Pixel 11 series, but a developer has ported it to other Android devices through an app called "PixelBoard," a modified version of Gboard. Users can sideload this app from GitHub, but they should proceed at their own risk. Testing on a Galaxy Z Fold 8 showed that the app functions effectively, similar to Rambler on the Pixel 11. It is unclear if Google will extend Rambler support to other devices, and alternatives like Microsoft’s SwiftKey are available on the Play Store.

Google’s Android Security State Libraries Enable Component-Level Security Verification

Google has launched AndroidX Security State libraries, enabling applications to verify security patch status at a granular level for individual components. This allows developers to conduct precise security verifications tailored to their applications' needs. The libraries categorize security patch levels into Device SPL, Published SPL, and Available SPL, providing enhanced visibility into device security. Functions such as queryAllAvailableUpdates() and areCvesPatched() help identify pending updates and check CVE status. The Security State Provider library standardizes communication for update notifications among OEMs.

Using AI to Solve Technical Problems in PC Games

PC gaming can experience crashes after installing mods or changing settings, often requiring players to diagnose issues from complex error logs. AI tools can assist by analyzing game versions and actions taken before crashes, helping to identify problems more efficiently. Heavily modded games may face additional complications due to conflicts between mods or outdated plugins, where AI can streamline the troubleshooting process. Configuration files contain critical settings that can be adjusted to resolve issues, and AI can clarify these settings and highlight changes when transferring games. Updates can introduce new problems, making it essential to provide AI with specific details for effective analysis. While paid AI tools may not be necessary for all players, they can be beneficial for those frequently encountering technical difficulties. AI can offer valuable insights during troubleshooting, though it may not resolve every issue.

Your old phone isn’t useless: 4 smart ways to get more life out of it

Phone upgrades often lead to replacing devices every couple of years, but old phones still hold value. Users typically choose to deal with their old phones in the following ways: 26% sell or trade it in, 26% hand it down to family or friends, 42% turn it into a dedicated gadget, and 5% let it sit in a drawer. Old phones can be kept as second devices for personal and work separation, used as an Android Auto display, or serve as a backup phone for emergencies. They can also be repurposed into gadgets like dash cams, security cameras, music players, e-readers, universal remotes, or PC companions. Additionally, they can replace webcams, act as second screens, or provide portable storage. If repurposing isn’t appealing, selling the phone is a practical option, with a strong market for used phones on platforms like SellCell, Swappa, eBay, or Facebook Marketplace. Trading it in may yield better benefits, especially with retailer promotions, and donating it to charity is another option.

The army, initially defensive, engages in a skirmish with the city guard and eventually overwhelms them. However, the situation spirals out of control as the army indiscriminately attacks nobles and townsfolk, leading to chaos. By nightfall, seven soldiers are dead, and Henry reflects on the violence. He ultimately takes control of Kuttenberg, but faces severe repercussions for the destruction caused during the coup.
