Nothing has released an app to share files between Android, Mac and other systems

Nothing has launched the Warp app and browser extension to improve file-sharing between Android devices and computers. The Warp extension is compatible only with Chromium-based browsers and works across macOS, Windows, and Linux. Users can share files, links, text, and images between their Android smartphones and PCs, requiring integration with Google Drive, while ensuring Nothing does not access user files. The transfer process involves selecting the "Share" option for a file, using the Upload option, the "Send with Nothing Warp" button, or pasting content into the extension. Users must install the Warp extension from the Chrome Web Store and the app from the Google Play Store, signing in with the same Google account to complete the setup.

Nothing Just Released a Free Android-to-Computer File Sharing App

AirDrop has been introduced on select Pixel and Samsung devices, enhancing file-sharing capabilities for those users. However, many Android users remain without access to this feature. In response, the London-based company Nothing has launched an app and Chrome extension called Nothing Warp, which is currently in public beta. Users must install a Chrome extension on Mac or Windows and the companion Android app, connecting them through a Google Account to share files seamlessly. Nothing Warp does not store transferred files, using Google Drive only for file movement. The app integrates with the Android share sheet for easy file sharing and allows users to send files, links, text, and images. Notifications are sent to the Android device upon receipt of files, and the service is available for free.

The model is tasked with reversing a sequence of eight digits, requiring it to understand structural rules similar to those used in contemporary large language models like ChatGPT. Plummer emphasizes the importance of optimizing for the system's constraints, stating that constraints drive creative engineering. The model operates with 1,216 parameters and uses fixed-point math with 8-bit precision. After approximately 350 training steps, the model achieved 100% accuracy in the number-reversing task in about 3.5 minutes. Plummer argues that modern AI operates on the same mechanical principles as this vintage machine, just at a much larger scale, and suggests that companies focusing on efficiency and optimization may gain an advantage in the AI landscape.

PCs can operate in one of six states, with S0 indicating full operation and S5 indicating a complete shutdown. Modern Standby (S0 Low Power Idle) turns off the display and most core components while allowing limited background activity, which may vary in effectiveness for battery drain. Traditional Sleep (S3) shuts down the screen and main components but may take longer to resume. Hibernate (S4) saves the current session and powers off completely, while Restart clears memory and resets the operating system. Shut Down (S5) clears memory and terminates processes, using a "soft off" method that retains certain settings for quicker startups through fast boot. Disabling fast boot can be done via the Control Panel. Although Modern Standby can conserve battery, it may not always be effective, as issues with firmware or drivers can prevent the computer from entering a true low-power state. For maximum battery efficiency, using the Shut Down option is recommended, especially with fast boot enabled for quick startups.
