Android Auto, enhanced by Gemini, allows users to navigate to restaurants, make calls, and play music. It integrates with applications like Google Maps for real-time navigation and supports voice commands for hands-free operation. The platform is compatible with third-party apps such as Spotify and Waze, and offers specialized apps for electric vehicles. However, users have reported issues with the Gemini voice assistant, including misunderstandings and system shutdowns. Google Maps can automatically display the last-used navigation app, which may not be preferred, and navigation apps can consume data unnecessarily. Message notifications can distract drivers, but users can disable them for better focus.

There is a divide between casual Windows users and engaged enthusiasts, with passive users often accepting default settings that contribute to system bloat. Passive users enable telemetry and promotional content by not customizing their installations, while active users take steps to enhance privacy and performance. Microsoft interprets user inaction as approval for unwanted features, leading to an accumulation of bloatware and unnecessary updates. The Connected User Experiences and Telemetry service collects user data, justifying the inclusion of features like Copilot, which many users may not want. Users face challenges in maintaining control over their systems, often needing technical knowledge to opt out of unwanted features. Microsoft's feedback system is inadequate, interpreting silence as consent rather than a lack of interest, making it difficult for users to effect meaningful change.

Microsoft is addressing an issue (TM1466820) causing delays or preventing some users from accessing the Microsoft Teams desktop client on Windows systems, acknowledged on Thursday at 16:45 EDT. Affected users may experience loading failures or delays of up to two minutes and are advised to use the web or mobile versions of Teams as a temporary workaround. Microsoft is analyzing service logs and telemetry data to identify the root cause and has contacted some affected users for more information. Additionally, there is a separate issue (TM1466659) affecting Mac users, preventing them from joining Teams calls and meetings, confirmed on Sunday at 08:32 EDT. Microsoft is reassessing the cause of this disruption. Earlier this year, Microsoft resolved an issue blocking some Teams Free users from chats and calls. The company also confirmed a bug causing crashes and launch failures for Teams and New Outlook users after recent Windows security updates. Furthermore, there is an ongoing Exchange Online issue affecting multiple mailboxes, resulting in "Server busy" errors and delays in email communications with external domains.

Microsoft is introducing Windows Age APIs to improve age verification in applications by categorizing users into age groups and indicating whether their age has been independently verified. This initiative responds to increasing regulatory demands for stricter age verification laws in the US, UK, and EU. The APIs allow apps to ask users about their age group and verification status without accessing actual birth dates, enhancing privacy. However, only authorized applications can utilize these APIs after being assessed by Microsoft's Digital Safety platform. The Windows Age APIs are documented in the Windows SDK but are not yet active in Windows 11, with an expected rollout before the end of 2026.

Android's App Pinning feature allows users to temporarily lock their device to a single application, preventing access to other apps and personal data. To enable App Pinning, users need to go to Settings, navigate to Security or Security & privacy, find App pinning, and toggle it on. To pin an app, open the desired app, access the Recent apps/Overview screen, tap the app icon, and select Pin. To unpin the app, swipe up and hold or press and hold the Back and Overview buttons, entering a PIN if required. App Pinning helps protect personal data when lending the phone.
