A week with Googlebooks: four notes from our testing so far

Google has launched five new Googlebook laptops featuring the Googlebook OS, which has received mixed reviews. While the hardware is praised, the software is criticized for being problematic and not a significant upgrade from ChromeOS. Users report issues such as the inability to run Chrome with separate Google accounts, clunky Android apps, and awkward command requirements for messaging apps. The app ecosystem is struggling, with many applications failing to adapt to the Googlebook's interface, resulting in a frustrating user experience. Linux applications face integration challenges, complicating multitasking. Despite some successful features like file transfer and notification responses between Googlebook and Android devices, users experience frequent connectivity issues and sluggish performance.

Russian software taught to work more easily with large data arrays

Russian Postgres Professional has released an update to Postgres Pro AXE, version 2.0, which allows users to handle analytical data using standard SQL queries instead of specialized stored procedures. This update improves accessibility to analytical data, which is stored in Parquet format and managed through a dedicated metadata catalog. The system is designed for analytical workloads, supporting Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and hybrid workloads. The first public version of Postgres Pro AXE was launched in January 2026, featuring vectorized analytical queries and compatibility with columnar storage. In the Russian market, alternatives to Postgres Pro AXE include Arenadata DB, optimized for corporate data warehouses, and Arenadata QuickMarts, a clustered columnar DBMS based on ClickHouse for rapid analytics.

‘I was nice to you three times in a row, so can I have one sex please?’: Why Nivalis Nights intentionally avoided transactional romances

Nivalis Nights combines storytelling and shop simulation with relationship dynamics, allowing players to interact with characters in ways that shape four attitudes: friendly, combative, romantic, and savvy. The dialogue options do not provide clear indicators, leading to ambiguous interactions that can result in unintended outcomes, such as offending a character or flirting unintentionally. Some characters hint at potential romantic paths, while others are less clear about their intentions. Lead writer Thomas Welsh notes that this design choice intentionally diverges from traditional romance systems in games, which often use clear markers to guide players. The lack of tone markers in dialogue requires players to interpret their interactions, resulting in varied experiences where relationships may develop unexpectedly or remain platonic.

‘Overcooked broke you apart and Stage Fright is there to put you back together’

Ghost Town Games is releasing Stage Fright, a co-op adventure focused on collaboration. The game features two players guiding children through a whimsical world, solving puzzles and dodging threats. It uses a simple single-button mechanic and emphasizes verbal communication without traditional inventory management. The gameplay is likened to an escape room experience, with clues that may not be immediately relevant. The developers describe it as a family-friendly version of Silent Hill, blending lightheartedness with mystery.

Microsoft’s AI-Powered Windows Strategy: 5 Things To Know

Microsoft has transitioned its Execution Containers capability into general availability, creating a secure environment for AI agents on Windows 11. Nvidia's CEO praised Microsoft's MXC architecture as a revolutionary foundation for application development. Organizations are increasingly relying on managed service providers to navigate AI tools. The general availability of Microsoft Execution Containers allows organizations to define access for AI agents, with real-time policy enforcement. The open-source MXC library integrates across Windows, macOS, and Linux, helping manage agent interactions and mitigate risks. Microsoft is enhancing the Copilot experience with hybrid intelligence features and revamping Windows Search for better performance. Preorders for new Copilot+ PCs powered by Nvidia's RTX Spark technology are open, with shipments starting on October 16. Device partners like Dell, HP, and Lenovo are also launching AI PCs on the same date. Later this year, Dell and HP will introduce Nvidia’s DGX Station technology to enable local running of frontier-class AI models on Windows devices.

Jensen Huang remembers Windows early days, crediting Microsoft, says that ‘Nvidia was founded because of Windows’; CEO Satya Nadella jokes: If you could just do a little transfer of…

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that Nvidia was founded due to the introduction of Windows 3.1 in 1992, which laid the groundwork for GPUs. He highlighted that Windows 95 and DirectX allowed for the integration of GPUs into PCs, with DirectX 8 enabling the creation of the first programmable GPU featuring programmable shaders, leading to CUDA. Huang emphasized that without Windows, there would be no GeForce, and consequently, AI researchers might not have had the necessary computational resources for deep learning. The conversation also touched on a four-year collaboration between Nvidia and Microsoft that resulted in the RTX Spark project, which required over 4,000 engineering years and extensive testing across more than 1,200 applications. Laptops featuring RTX Spark are available for preorder, with shipments starting on October 16.
