Samsung phones finally support Googlebook cross-device features

Google is enhancing Googlebook for Samsung Galaxy users by introducing Better Together support for devices running One UI 9.0 based on Android 17. This update enables features such as Continue On, Cast My Apps, Quick Access, and Notification Sync. A recent update to Google Play services addresses a pairing bug that left the QR code visible after a successful connection. Galaxy owners must have the appropriate software versions, with Google Play services updated to version 26.37 or newer and Cross-device services at version 1.0.1346 or newer. Both devices need to be linked to the same Google account, with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled. Google recommends using a private home network for optimal pairing performance. Initial user feedback indicates positive results, with some Galaxy S26 Ultra owners successfully casting apps.

Googlebook improving ‘Better Together’ Android sync features, Samsung support rolling out

The launch of Googlebook has generated interest due to its integration with Android devices, but initial rollout revealed inconsistencies in the "Better Together" sync features. Google is addressing these issues through updates, including support for Samsung devices. Core functionalities linking Android phones with Googlebook include app streaming, notification synchronization, and the "Continue On" feature, though not all features are performing as expected. Users have reported that while Instant Hotspot works effectively, other features are slow or unavailable. Google has announced improvements to simplify the setup process and resolved a bug related to the QR code used for pairing. Users should ensure their Google Play Services is updated to version 26.37 and Cross-device Services to version 1.0.1346. Initially, there was a lack of support for Galaxy smartphones, but recent updates have allowed Samsung users to utilize the "Better Together" features. To maximize the experience with Googlebook, users should confirm their phone runs Android 17, check Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections, use a private home Wi-Fi network, and verify relevant app versions and settings. Some Samsung Galaxy users have reported successful integration of the features following updates, indicating that initial compatibility issues have been resolved.

Googlebook Cross-Device Features Locked Behind Android 17

Google's new Googlebook cross-device features require a smartphone running Android 17 to access functionalities like phone app streaming, task continuity, and shared file access. Only recent Google Pixel models and Samsung foldable devices with One UI 9 come pre-installed with Android 17, leaving many users with older flagship and mid-range devices unable to utilize these features. New models, such as the POCO F9 series, also launch with Android 16, making them incompatible. Additionally, applications with DRM-protected content or sensitive information will not stream to the laptop, displaying a blank privacy screen instead. The features are included at no extra cost, but their availability depends on the smartphone's Android version.

The Copilot+ PC brand is dead — here’s how to reclaim and remap the Copilot key

Microsoft has shifted its branding strategy by discontinuing the Copilot+ designation for the newly launched Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch models, despite these models technically qualifying for the label. This change has caused confusion among consumers who purchased Copilot+ PCs to access the latest laptop iterations. Users with the Copilot experience are questioning the functionality of the Copilot key, which may feel redundant. Non-Copilot+ PCs and keyboards still feature a Copilot key, leading to user frustrations regarding branding inconsistencies. To address this, users can cover the Copilot key with stickers, with options available for black or white keyboards being easier to find than for gray or vibrant Type Covers.
