Microsoft brings a Linux-style window trick to Windows 11 via PowerToys, and I can’t go back

Microsoft's PowerToys version 0.99 introduces two new tools: Grab And Move and Power Display, along with enhancements to the Command Palette Dock. Grab And Move allows users to reposition application windows by holding the Alt key and dragging anywhere on the window, facilitating easier window management. Six months ago, ASUS and AMD launched the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X in 45 countries, combining Xbox capabilities with Windows 11 in a portable format. Player feedback has led to continual updates, optimizing hundreds of games for handheld play and introducing features like Default Game Profiles and expanded Xbox mode. Recent updates include automatic gameplay transition to TV when docked, support for HDR10 and Variable Refresh Rate on certain docks, a Display Widget for adjusting settings via the Game Bar, improved controller pairing, and the Gamepad Cursor feature for non-controller supported applications. Automatic Super Resolution is now in preview for Xbox Insiders on the ROG Xbox Ally X, enhancing visual quality. The Xbox Wireless Headset now supports Bluetooth LE Audio for reduced latency and improved battery life. The Xbox PC app has been revamped to consolidate games from various storefronts into one library. Windows AI Recall is pushing data destruction upstream

The introduction of Copilot+ PCs has created new complexities in IT asset disposition (ITAD), as these devices may contain a comprehensive, time-stamped archive of user activity, which was not present on corporate laptops two years ago. Microsoft's Recall feature captures user activity screenshots and stores them securely, but recent research by Alexander Hagenah suggests that the safeguards may be ineffective, as his tool can extract sensitive data without breaking encryption. Microsoft defends the security of Recall, stating that observed access patterns align with intended protections. This situation presents challenges for ITAD operators, as pre-collection now constitutes a data-destruction event, requiring devices to be powered down or purged before leaving the client’s environment. Certificates of sanitization must evolve to address the specific destruction of Recall snapshot stores, and conversations with clients should differentiate between managed and unmanaged fleets regarding Recall settings. The presence of Recall shifts some data-destruction responsibilities upstream to clients, complicating traditional ITAD value propositions.

Windows 11 build 26300.8289 has introduced several updates on the Experimental channel, including four undisclosed changes and enhancements to Windows Update. How to fast travel in Windrose

In the co-op pirate survival game Windrose, players can fast travel after crafting a Fast Travel Bell and establishing Fast Travel Points. To craft a Fast Travel Bell, players need 10 copper ingots and 3 ropes. A Fast Travel Point requires 20 wood and 1 Fast Travel Bell. Players can find Fast Travel Bells as loot in shipwrecks or chests. Fast Travel Points must be placed near water and players can only fast travel between established points while on foot. While sailing, fast travel is accessible unless in combat. Players can activate fast travel from any point at sea by selecting a Fast Travel Point on the map. In co-op mode, initiating fast travel teleports only the player, leaving the ship behind. Additionally, there are existing fast travel points at faction bases like Tortuga.

Samsung replaces Messages app with Google’s. What does this mean?

Samsung is discontinuing its Samsung Messages application and transitioning users to Google Messages by July. Users are encouraged to switch themselves for a smoother transition, with advantages including enhanced AI capabilities, multi-device connectivity, and RCS Messaging. The exact date for the discontinuation has yet to be provided. Users will receive in-app notifications to guide them through the transition, or they can manually download Google Messages and set it as their default SMS app. Samsung Messages will not be available for download on new devices, including the Galaxy S26. Users with Android 12 or 13 will need to manually add the Google Messages icon to their home screen dock after switching. Those with devices released prior to 2022 may experience temporary disruptions in RCS conversations. Messaging support will also cease for older generation smartwatches running Tizen OS, specifically those launched before the Galaxy Watch4.
