Microsoft is ending support for Internet Explorer mode in Edge

Microsoft has announced that the Internet Explorer mode within its Edge browser will be supported until at least the end of 2029. This mode allows organizations to run IE's rendering engine on current Windows versions. Microsoft will provide a minimum of one year's notice before any end-of-support date. IE mode is a compatibility feature in Edge that uses the legacy Trident engine. Internet Explorer officially retired its standalone browser in June 2022, having dropped to less than 1 percent of the browser market share at that time.

Sorry Microsoft. Windows 10 is more stable than Windows 11, and your recent updates have made it obvious

Windows 11's September update, released on the 8th, has caused various issues, including problems with Remote Desktop, USB audio, and Linux/WSL applications. Failures in File History, crashes of Explorer.exe, and instability with AMD GPUs were also reported. An emergency update was issued on September 14 but did not resolve all issues. Over nine months, Windows 11 updates have resulted in numerous bugs, while Windows 10 has experienced significantly fewer issues. Specific problems with Windows 11 included black screens and authentication issues in January, Microsoft account sign-in issues in March, BitLocker recovery problems in April and May, boot failures in June, and compatibility problems in July. August saw game crashes linked to third-party drivers, and September was marked by extensive issues requiring an emergency update. Windows 10 continues to receive updates and has a commitment to Extended Security Updates until October 12, 2027. The stability of Windows 10 is attributed to fewer significant changes compared to the ongoing enhancements in Windows 11.

Motorola just gave privacy fans a big reason to consider the Signature 27

Motorola's Signature 27 will be one of the first phones powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. GrapheneOS has confirmed initial support for the Signature 27, expanding beyond Google Pixel phones. The Copilot+ PC brand is dead: Microsoft and PC makers quietly pull back on tarnished Windows 11 AI PC branding

In 2024, Microsoft and Qualcomm launched "Copilot+ PCs" to promote AI-first computing, but faced challenges when security concerns led to the postponement of the key feature, Recall. A Microsoft representative stated that while the latest Surface PCs met Copilot+ specifications, they would not carry the branding. Qualcomm's Kedar Kondap explained that the branding aimed to define devices capable of advanced NPU experiences, but those experiences could still be provided without the Copilot+ label. NVIDIA chose not to associate its RTX Spark platform with Copilot+, indicating a lack of market resonance for the branding. Consequently, both OEMs and Microsoft are moving away from the Copilot+ label, despite maintaining the specification baseline for the experiences.

uBlock Origin finally broke for me on Microsoft Edge, so I switched to Brave

Microsoft Edge users recently experienced a significant change as advertisements flooded the interface following the discontinuation of support for the uBlock Origin ad-blocking extension. This shift resulted from the transition away from Manifest Version 2 (MV2) extensions to Manifest Version 3 (MV3), which diminishes the effectiveness of ad blockers. As a result, users are considering alternative solutions or switching browsers. Brave has emerged as a viable option, maintaining support for MV2 extensions and offering effective ad-blocking features through its Brave Shields. Users can selectively block elements easily, although it lacks some features of uBlock Origin. The author plans to use Brave Shields for browsing while keeping the option to revert to uBlock Origin if needed.
