Windows 98 SE users get a Thunderbolt 4 driver, thanks to AI assistance — vibe-coded xHCI98 driver works in Microsoft OSes up to Windows 7

Windows 98 SE now has experimental support for USB4 and Thunderbolt 3/4 through the xHCI98 v3.0.0.0 driver developed by Yeo Kheng Meng. This driver enables the use of generic USB 3.x, USB4, and Thunderbolt host controllers on legacy operating systems like Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000, XP, Vista, and 7. It allows connections for USB storage devices, replaces native USB drivers, and supports USB 1.1, 2.0, SuperSpeed devices, UAS storage, and Thunderbolt docks and NVMe enclosures. Meng utilized AI tools for development and primarily tested the driver on Intel hardware, while advising users to be cautious of potential bugs. He also provides guidance on hardware compatibility, installation methods, and updates.

Exploring the Best Google Play Alternatives for Android

Users often face challenges when installing applications due to regional unavailability or device incompatibility. The desire to revert to previous app versions can complicate matters, especially if installation packages are deleted. Consequently, many turn to alternative platforms for app downloads. When choosing a Google Play alternative, users should consider four key factors: convenience, availability of older versions, diversity of app selections, and transparency regarding security information. 1. Convenience: The ease of navigation and user experience are crucial. Some apps are distributed in XAPK format, complicating installation without additional tools. Established platforms like APKPure offer streamlined installation processes. 2. Availability of Older Versions: Users often want the option to revert to older app versions due to changes in features or compatibility issues. It's important to check if the app store provides previous versions and allows users to retain downloaded APK files. 3. Diversity of App Selection: Alternative app stores can provide access to region-specific applications, enhancing the user experience. Platforms like APKPure support multiple languages, improving accessibility for international users. 4. Transparency of Information: Security is a significant concern when downloading from third-party sources. Reputable stores conduct checks on APKs and provide security information to users. APKPure is noted for excelling in all four factors, while Uptodown is strong in app catalog exploration and version management. Aptoide offers diverse catalogs but requires caution regarding download sources, and Softonic focuses on software discovery across platforms.
