Windows may finally take no for an answer, adding a permanent opt-out for OneDrive backup nags

Microsoft has introduced a new feature in Windows 11 that allows users to permanently opt out of prompts encouraging them to back up files with OneDrive. The updated full-screen backup prompt now includes an "Opt out of backup" button, which was observed on PCs running stable Windows 11 25H2 builds without the OneDrive sync client installed. This option enables users to indicate their preference against OneDrive integration without uninstalling OneDrive or affecting existing files and synchronization settings. The feature aims to eliminate intrusive backup notifications that previously required users to either continue with OneDrive backup or postpone the prompt. Although the option appeared on at least one system in 2025, it is now being rolled out to a broader range of stable installations. The August 27 update notes from Microsoft do not mention this new opt-out button, suggesting it may be rolling out independently.

To set up Call Screen, users must do so through the Phone by Google app. Compatibility with Android Auto and Call Screen varies by phone model and geographical location, with automatic screening primarily available on Pixel phones in the U.S. Manual screening is accessible in several countries, and some selected Android devices may also support it. Not all call screening features are the same across different brands, and practical limitations exist for automatic Call Screen, such as functionality issues when connected via Bluetooth or while roaming.

The new limits will first apply to Pixel devices with Android 17, and other manufacturers are expected to follow. Additionally, by April 2027, all apps on the Play Store must support zero-tap credential restoration for users transitioning to new devices.

Breezy Weather is an open-source app focused on privacy and customization, offering extensive data metrics and a clear user interface. It is ad-free and does not have a premium tier, but is not available on Google Play and lacks radar functionality. Gradient Weather features a polished design, color-coded alerts, customizable notifications, and radar functionality for tracking storms and other weather metrics. Gradient requires a financial commitment for full access, while Breezy is free. The author prefers Gradient Weather for its radar and advanced notification features.

Fake dating apps are being used to target Android users: How the new cyber scam works

India's cybercrime authorities have warned about the misuse of dating and adult-themed advertisements on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook, which are being exploited by criminals to distribute malicious Android applications. These ads redirect users to external websites where they are prompted to download APK files, bypassing security measures of trusted app stores. The Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) has identified several malicious applications, including Night Play, Reloop, Kyss, Vimo, Rivo, Nexo, and Vixa, and cautions against installing unfamiliar applications promoted through unsolicited ads. These apps may request sensitive permissions, such as access to SMS messages, contacts, photos, device storage, and Accessibility Services, which can allow fraudsters to access valuable information. Compromised devices can lead to financial fraud by intercepting OTPs and other verification details. The I4C recommends using trusted app stores, keeping Google Play Protect active, reviewing app permissions, and being cautious with social media ads. If a suspicious app is installed, users should restart their phone in Safe Mode to uninstall it, disable its permissions if necessary, and consider a factory reset if removal fails. Users who suspect fraud are encouraged to report incidents promptly.
