Windows 11 now lets you remove Microsoft Copilot app with Group Policy or Registry, as it tries to win back users

Recent feedback from Windows 11 users has led Microsoft to simplify the process of uninstalling Copilot due to dissatisfaction with its integration. A Group Policy option titled “Remove Microsoft Copilot app” has been introduced in the April 2026 Update, allowing users to remove Copilot via User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows AI. Users can also uninstall Copilot directly from the installed apps list or by right-clicking the icon, although it may reappear after a fresh installation due to certain updates. To uninstall Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot using Group Policy, the following conditions must be met: both apps must be installed, the user did not install them independently, and the Copilot app has not been used for over 28 days. This policy is supported on Pro, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise or LTSC versions of Windows 11. Windows 11 Home users can manually remove Copilot by creating a registry key at HKEYCURRENTUSERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindowsWindowsAI and setting a DWORD value named RemoveMicrosoftCopilotApp to 1. Alternatively, users can execute a PowerShell script to remove Copilot. Microsoft has not provided an uninstall option for Copilot in the Start menu.

I tested Windows 11’s return of taskbar positioning and resizing, and it’s not the classic Windows 10 experience

The Taskbar in Windows 11 will receive enhancements allowing users to reposition and resize it, similar to features in Windows 10. The latest build, 26300.8493, enables placement of the Taskbar at any screen edge—top, bottom, left, or right. The interface will adapt to the Taskbar's position, with the Start menu and Search opening downward when docked at the top. In a vertical layout, the year will be abbreviated, and seconds will not be displayed. Users can ungroup app labels using the "Never combine" option when the Taskbar is on the left or right. The new "Taskbar position" setting is found under Settings > Personalization > Taskbar in the "Taskbar behaviors" section.

Microsoft says you should pause Windows 11 Updates when you need to work, as it tests greater controller

Microsoft is shifting its approach to Windows updates, responding to user frustrations about receiving update notifications during critical work hours. The company is currently testing more nuanced controls for updates with Windows Insiders, including a "Pick a date" feature that allows users to pause updates for up to 35 days, with the option to extend the pause indefinitely. Retail Windows 11 users can pause updates for up to five weeks, after which updates will automatically download without further pause options. Microsoft acknowledges that the frequency of updates can disrupt workflows for its 1.6 billion users, many of whom view mandatory updates as interruptions. The time required for updates has increased due to larger cumulative update packages, which can exceed 4GB, and the complexity of the operating system. To improve user control, Microsoft is testing a new power menu that separates update and shutdown options, allowing users to power down without installing updates. Additionally, updates will now include device class information in their titles for better user awareness. These changes aim to streamline the update experience and address long-standing user complaints.

This Android gaming app might kill handheld PCs
