Nightmare Eclipse has released a new zero-day exploit called ShieldBreak, which can bypass Microsoft's RoguePlanet patch (CVE-2026-50656) and allow attackers to gain SYSTEM privileges on fully patched Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server systems. The exploit has been confirmed by security expert Kevin Beaumont, who provided detection methods for it. ShieldBreak is the tenth zero-day from Nightmare Eclipse since April and was released shortly after Microsoft's monthly Patch Tuesday. The exploit allows local privilege escalation and has a 100% success rate on the latest version of Windows 11 and Windows Server 2025, while Windows 10 remains vulnerable. Microsoft is aware of the vulnerability and is investigating it, emphasizing the importance of coordinated vulnerability disclosure. Previous exploits from Nightmare Eclipse include LegacyHive and GreatXML, with earlier vulnerabilities having been patched but recent ones still unaddressed. Microsoft had threatened legal action against Nightmare Eclipse in May but later reconsidered its approach to vulnerability disclosure.

North Korea's Contagious Interview hackers have been using a deceptive strategy to target developers by posing as recruiters and embedding malware in SVG files. Elastic Security Labs discovered that the attackers hid malicious payloads within HTML comment blocks of these files, allowing the malware to evade antivirus detection. At the time of the findings, no antivirus engines flagged the compromised repositories, which included trojanized GitHub repositories disguised as coding challenges. The malware executed automatically at server startup and deployed four modules: a browser credential and cryptocurrency wallet stealer, a file stealer, a remote access Trojan, and a clipboard monitor. The campaign, tracked as REF9403, is part of the ongoing Contagious Interview operation attributed to North Korea's Lazarus Group, which aims to generate revenue through cryptocurrency theft. Developers are advised to audit any projects run from unsolicited sources and to monitor specific domains associated with the attack.

On June 10th, Splunk released an advisory for CVE-2026-20253, a high-severity vulnerability with a CVSS score of 9.8 that requires no authentication. The vulnerability is associated with the PostgreSQL Sidecar Service Endpoint and affects Splunk Enterprise versions 10 and above. New variants of the NFCShare Android malware are disguised as fake updates for legitimate banking applications and are targeting customers of various banks in Europe through a phishing campaign to steal sensitive payment card data. The malware prompts victims to place their cards near the NFC chip of their mobile devices, using Android’s IsoDep interface to read card information, including card number, type, expiry date, and a 4-digit PIN. The stolen data is exfiltrated to the attacker’s command-and-control host via a WebSocket channel. Recent attacks began on May 14, with victims directed to a phishing site that impersonates a legitimate bank and then to a GitHub repository hosting a malicious APK file. The repository has hosted 56 unique APKs impersonating banking applications primarily from Italy and Spain. The malware has evolved from initially targeting Deutsche Bank in Germany to a broader range of banks. The latest version features malformed APK packaging to complicate automated analysis. Users are advised to download banking applications only from Google Play and to be cautious of verification requests that ask for NFC card scans.
