Hypixel Studios has announced the cancellation of Hytale, a game first unveiled in December 2018 and intended to compete with Minecraft. The studio, backed by Riot Games, is winding down operations following this decision. Despite initial excitement and a trailer that garnered 61 million views, development faced significant challenges, leading to the conclusion that the game could not be realized as originally promised. Co-founder Noxy expressed disappointment and noted that attempts to reduce the game's scope or delay its release were ultimately dismissed. Riot Games also sought potential investors to rescue Hytale, but these efforts were unsuccessful. Affected staff will receive severance packages and support for their future endeavors.

Nintendo remains focused on its consoles, while the fan community has ported Mario Kart 64 to PC under the name SpaghettiKart. The Harbour Masters development team reverse-engineered the original game's code, enhancing it with modern graphics options like ultrawide screen support, 4K resolution, and higher frame rates. SpaghettiKart also allows players to create custom race courses and increase CPU difficulty. Harbour Masters has previously developed PC ports for Star Fox 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, using "clean codes" that do not include original Nintendo 64 code. Players need legally sourced ROMs to use these ports. Earlier this year, the community ported Minecraft to Super Mario 64, compatible with PC emulators and original Nintendo 64 consoles. The latest official Mario Kart entry, Mario Kart World, launched for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Microsoft is testing a new version of its Xbox app for Windows, which will feature a combined library that includes games from various storefronts like Steam and Battle.net. Users will be able to view and launch these games directly within the Xbox app, eliminating the need to switch between different launchers. Games installed from supported storefronts will automatically appear in the "My library" section and the "Most recent" list in the sidebar. Users can join the gaming preview by downloading the Xbox Insider Hub on their Windows PCs, with the feature expected to roll out later this year.

Microsoft has announced a collaboration with ASUS to develop the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X handheld devices, which will allow access to the Xbox library and games from platforms like Battle.net, GOG, and Steam. Xbox Insiders will have an exclusive preview of the new "aggregated gaming library" feature in the Xbox PC app for Windows 11, debuting this week. This feature will enable users to view their complete Xbox library, explore Game Pass titles, and access installed games from other PC game stores from a single interface. The aggregated library will launch with the Xbox Ally devices this holiday season, allowing seamless integration of games from supported PC storefronts into the Xbox PC app. Users can hide specific games from their libraries if desired. Non-Xbox Insiders can join the program for early access to these features.

Over two weeks after the launch of the Switch 2 and the latest Mario Kart installment, a fan-made port of Mario Kart 64, called SpaghettiKart, has been released for PC. This port was created by fans who reverse-engineered the original game, ensuring it does not use any code from the Nintendo 64 version to avoid legal issues. SpaghettiKart is available for download on GitHub and is still a work-in-progress, with some features not yet fully supported and a rare crash issue for a small number of users. The project follows the decompilation of the classic game and is part of a trend of retro titles being ported by fans.
