Google is updating its Gemini AI with a new interface that enhances user interaction on select Pixel and Galaxy smartphones, including the Pixel 10 Pro XL and Galaxy S26 Ultra. The update features a blurred backdrop that separates the Gemini interface from the underlying screen, creating a more immersive experience. This redesign builds on previous updates, which included sleeker icons and Dynamic Color support, and allows for direct interactions within the overlay without needing to switch screens. The rollout is server-side controlled, meaning not all users will receive the update simultaneously, and there is currently no toggle to activate the new design.

Google is rolling out wallpaper-based theming for Gemini within the Google app, transitioning from hidden manual activation to a beta version accessible to users, including those on the Pixel 9 with version 17.27.33.sa.arm64. This update aligns Gemini with the Material You design philosophy, allowing the interface to dynamically adjust to the user's wallpaper colors, moving away from the previous static color scheme. Currently, changes are visible in Gemini's floating overlay UI, which adopts a tint reflecting the system theme, while the main interface has not yet fully implemented dynamic theming, indicating a phased rollout approach.

“Pixel Glow” is a forthcoming feature for future Pixel phones that will use subtle light and color on the back of the device to notify users of significant notifications while the phone is face down. It will be compatible with Gemini and will notify users of calls from favorite contacts. The Pixel Diagnostics app includes a “Color LED Check” to test the functionality of the LEDs, which will illuminate in red, green, and blue hues. Google is incorporating eight LEDs for the “Pixel Glow” feature, with a system designed to detect hardware failures. An animation has been discovered that shows an LED strip along the inner edge of an upcoming Pixel laptop, potentially illuminating in colors similar to the Gemini interface.

Google is testing enhancements for the Gemini Android app to replicate the user-friendly interface of its web version, including a "Settings & help" menu. The latest beta release, version 17.11.54, features a user interface similar to the mobile web version, with planned additions like "Scheduled actions," "My stuff," and a new Notebooks section. Gemini will also show the last-used extension in the query header and may relocate the model switcher to the app header to declutter the input field. Updated icons for the feedback row are also being introduced.

The latest beta version of the Google app (17.10.54.sa.arm64) has introduced several updates to the Gemini user interface, including a new "Discover" tab in the sidebar that currently leads to an empty page. The sidebar may be redesigned for a more streamlined layout, featuring a settings shortcut at the bottom. Gemini's "Thinking" responses will now be presented in a bottom sheet format for improved clarity. The sidebar serves as a navigation tool, allowing users to switch between chats and access app sections, with some variations tested appearing unfinished. One version successfully loads chat history and includes minor UI adjustments that align with the web interface design. The Gemini overlay has also been refined to separate input and responses, adding a prominent close button and repositioning the voice output feature. Not all features from the APK teardown may be included in the public release.
