Earlier this month, we delved into the intriguing features of “Pixel Glow,” a forthcoming addition to future Pixel phones, alongside the anticipated launch of a “Pixel laptop.” Recent updates have unveiled further insights into this innovative technology.
Our initial findings suggested that “Pixel Glow” would utilize subtle light and color on the back of the device to alert users to significant notifications while the phone is face down. However, specifics regarding its functionality, visibility, and integration remain somewhat elusive. What we do know is that it will be compatible with Gemini and will notify users of calls from their favorite contacts.
As we explored deeper, additional details emerged. The Pixel Diagnostics app now includes references to a “Color LED Check,” designed to illuminate “Pixel Glow” in red, green, and blue hues. This feature aims to assist users in diagnosing any potential issues with the device’s LEDs, requiring user confirmation for accuracy. Some of these strings were also present in earlier versions of the Diagnostics app.
- Color LED Check
- Description: The LED lights will turn red, green, and blue in sequence. Please flip the device to observe.
- Image Description: A lightbulb that will change color during the test.
- Blue Light Abnormality: Notification of a potential issue.
- Confirmation Message: Do you see the LED lights change correctly?
- Response Options: Fail, Rerun, Pass.
- Dialog Title: Please confirm color LED result.
- Green Light Abnormality: Notification of a potential issue.
- Instruction: Please flip the device.
- Color LED: The component being tested.
- Red Light Abnormality: Notification of a potential issue.
These findings were first highlighted by Android Authority, and we have since verified their accuracy. Further investigation revealed that Google is incorporating eight LEDs for the “Pixel Glow” feature. An error message indicating “Not all 8 Color LED lights are found” suggests that the system is designed to detect hardware failures in the lights, hinting at a more complex integration than a simple notification LED.
In addition to the phone features, we also discovered an animation that provides a glimpse into how “Pixel Glow” will manifest on Google’s upcoming laptop. This animation, which surfaced in a previous update, depicts an LED strip along the inner edge of the laptop, potentially at the bottom of the display, illuminating in colors reminiscent of the Gemini interface. It’s important to note that this animation likely represents a generic laptop design and may not reflect the final product.
As developments continue to unfold, the excitement surrounding “Pixel Glow” and its integration into both Pixel phones and laptops grows, promising a new era of user interaction and notifications.
