Many Google apps could pick up a fresh gradient icon redesign

Google is redesigning its app icons to adopt a more vibrant and gradient-centric aesthetic, moving away from its traditional minimalist style. Key changes include: - Gmail will retain its 'M' envelope shape but will feature a predominantly red hue with accents of yellow, green, and blue. - Google Drive will eliminate red and introduce a rounded triangle filled with green, yellow, and blue. - Google Docs will keep its vertical paper motif. - Google Sheets and Slides will transition to a landscape orientation. - Google Calendar will replace its four-color container with a blue-centric flip-style icon. - Google Meet will adopt a bold yellow hue. - Google Chat will feature a new green, pill-shaped bubble. - Google Keep will highlight a light bulb icon without a background page. - Google Tasks will maintain a prominent checkmark within a button-like shape. - Google Voice will have a more rounded phone icon, keeping its light green color. Gmail, Drive, and other Google apps are getting a major icon redesign

The feature is accessible on devices running Android 9 or newer and Google Play Services version 25.49.xx or later.

Microsoft shuts down Android Outlook app

Microsoft will retire Outlook Lite for Android on May 25, 2026, after which users will no longer be able to access emails through the app. New downloads of Outlook Lite ceased in October 2025. Users will be guided to transition to the full Outlook app, and their accounts and data will remain intact. Outlook Lite was designed for low-end devices and had over 10 million downloads in its first year but struggled in the market. The trend of phasing out Lite applications is seen as a response to improved smartphone capabilities and internet connectivity. Users have just over a month to transition before the official retirement of Outlook Lite.

Microsoft’s lightweight email app is shutting down soon

Microsoft will retire its Outlook Lite app for Android on May 25, 2026. After this date, the app will still launch, but functionality will be limited, with mailbox access disabled. Users are encouraged to switch to the full Outlook app to maintain access to their emails and calendar items, as user accounts will not be deleted or disabled. An “Upgrade” option in the Lite app will direct users to the Outlook page on Google Play. Alternative email applications like Proton Mail and Gmail are also available for users who do not wish to use the full Outlook app.
