1047 Games has announced it will cease development on the PvP arena shooter Empulse and its predecessor Splitgate: Arena Reloaded due to insufficient revenue to cover operational expenses. The studio will continue to exist but will shift its strategic focus to future projects. The original Splitgate: Arena Warfare launched in 2019 and gained significant popularity, but the follow-up titles did not achieve similar success, resulting in layoffs shortly after Empulse's launch. Despite discontinuing dedicated servers, the studio will support both Empulse and Splitgate: Arena Reloaded through peer-to-peer matchmaking, allowing players to host matches indefinitely. Empulse will receive a final new map and a price reduction. 1047 Games expressed gratitude to its team members and players for their contributions and support.

Michael Stonebraker, the creator of PostgreSQL, noted that Oracle's acquisition of MySQL inadvertently boosted PostgreSQL's prominence among major tech companies like Microsoft, AWS, and Google. PostgreSQL, which originated from Stonebraker's earlier Postgres system proposed in 1986, celebrated its 30th anniversary this summer. Its popularity surged over the past five years, becoming the preferred database among developers in 2023, as per a Stack Overflow survey. Microsoft has launched a distributed PostgreSQL database service to compete with other offerings. Stonebraker highlighted the extensive adoption of PostgreSQL's wire format by major companies, contrasting it with MySQL's declining competitiveness since Oracle's acquisition in 2010. He expressed gratitude towards Oracle for prompting users to consider PostgreSQL as an alternative, emphasizing its open-source nature and community-driven control. Stonebraker has founded several database companies and co-founded DBOS three years ago, which has pivoted towards AI agents and partnerships with Databricks and CockroachDB.

In 2020, Microsoft committed to Manifest Version 3 (MV3) for the Chromium extensions platform. As of now, 95% of the top MV2 extensions have transitioned to MV3 in the Edge Add-ons store. Starting in August 2026, Microsoft Edge will begin transitioning consumers away from MV2 extensions, aiming to complete this by the end of 2026, with enterprise deprecation expected in early 2027. Currently, only 58 MV2-based extensions show meaningful usage, and three of these lack an MV3 version. Notifications will be sent to users and developers regarding the transition, and MV2 extensions will gradually be disabled by default. Developers are encouraged to finalize their transition to MV3 and submit updates via Microsoft Partner Center.
