Minecraft 26.3 Launches with New Dungeons II Rewards Integration

Minecraft version 26.3 is nearing its official release as the first Java Edition release candidate is available, part of the Wilderness Bound expansion. The update includes key fixes to combat mechanics, such as adjustments to blocking interactions and the removal of axes' ability to disable shields. It also corrects an error in the match_block loot predicate and resolves a visibility exploit with ender pearls. Additionally, Minecraft Dungeons II will allow players to unlock cosmetic items across Minecraft Dungeons II, Java Edition, and Bedrock Edition by using the same Microsoft account. Players who engage with the original Minecraft Dungeons before December 31, 2026, can obtain the Hero Cape, while pre-orders for Dungeons II will grant the Twisted Cape and other exclusive items. However, some Deluxe Edition rewards will remain exclusive to Dungeons II.

Remote Desktop Services (RDS) are malfunctioning, leading to connection failures and sign-in problems. Additionally, some users face black screens upon sign-in due to Explorer.exe crashes. Reports indicate that File History is not recognizing external backup drives, and serious GPU issues have been reported on AMD Radeon systems, including driver timeouts and system freezes.

Lakebase Postgres employs a disaggregated storage model that enhances data management through efficient caching, utilizing an object store like S3 for backups. The caching operates on two layers: within distributed storage for optimizing write and read performance, and on the Postgres compute side for ultra-fast access to frequently accessed pages. Traditional Postgres caching involves shared buffers and the OS page cache, which leads to double buffering and inefficiencies. Lakebase Postgres addresses these issues by implementing a local file cache (LFC) and larger shared buffers, allowing for more effective memory utilization without the drawbacks of the OS page cache. The shared buffers are set to a maximum of 1 GB, while the LFC can utilize up to 75% of DRAM. The introduction of huge pages reduces memory management overhead and improves performance, resulting in significant throughput increases and reduced latency in production environments. Recent enhancements have shown up to 2× throughput improvements and substantial reductions in CPU usage. The focus is now on extending these benefits to autoscaling Postgres computes, with plans to implement dynamic shared buffers and autoscaling huge pages.

Windows 11 can now reinstall itself from the cloud — Cloud Rebuild revives dead systems without secondary boot media, wipes broken installation and downloads a fresh copy of the OS

Cloud Rebuild simplifies the reinstallation process by downloading a fresh image of Windows and necessary drivers via Windows Update, independent of the current installation's health. Users can access it through the Windows Recovery Environment by selecting Troubleshoot > Recovery and uninstall > Cloud rebuild. The feature also includes enhanced networking support, allowing PCs to connect to the internet using saved Wi-Fi profiles during recovery. Once connected, Cloud Rebuild checks for the appropriate Windows build and prompts users to confirm details before proceeding with reinstallation.
