Latest Android Drop connects Gemini to Find Hub, adds Keep Notes and themes to Messages

Google's latest Android feature Drop introduces enhancements aimed at improving user experience, including aesthetic and functional improvements to messaging threads and the rollout of Motion Assist dots. A key feature is the expanded functionality of Gemini for Android 16 or higher, allowing users to log locations of items without tracker tags and store this information in Find Hub. Another addition is the Guided Vision feature within Gemini Live, which aids accessibility by helping users locate objects in the camera's view and extracting difficult-to-read information, such as text in low-light conditions. Guided Vision can be accessed through system Accessibility shortcuts and the TalkBack menu, compatible with Android devices starting from Android 9 Pie.

World War 1 survival horror Conscript gets a ‘huge’ update that adds a hardcore mode, redesigned levels, new items and gear, and much more

Conscript, a World War I survival horror game, received a commendable score of 83 from reviewer Alexander Chatziioannou for its portrayal of a French soldier's journey through the Battle of Verdun. Developer Jordan Mochi is releasing a substantial update titled Conscript: Director's Cut, which includes new items like a craftsman's kit and a dog collar that prevents rat spawning, inspired by historical practices. The combat system has been improved with features such as moving while aiming and enhanced melee attacks. Additional updates include changes to the late-game economy, placeable map markers, and an improved records screen. To celebrate the update, publisher Team 17 is offering a 66% discount, reducing the price to $/£6.79.

Bluetooth Channel Sounding available on Android app

Nordic Semiconductor has enhanced its Bluetooth capabilities with the nRF Toolbox app, which supports Bluetooth Channel Sounding technology. This feature is demonstrated using the nRF54L Series paired with a Google Pixel 10 smartphone, showcasing interoperability between Android's Bluetooth Channel Sounding API and Nordic's hardware. The system provides a distance estimation accuracy of ±1 meter over a range of up to 20 meters, enabling applications in distance ranging, indoor positioning, and presence detection. Developers can utilize Nordic's Bluetooth Channel Sounding solution for Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) tags, which can be used for item tracking, monitoring medical equipment, and improving visitor experiences in various settings. The Channel Sounding reflector is compatible with all nRF54L Series ultra-low power wireless SoCs, and development is facilitated through the nRF Connect SDK.

This app will bring Galaxy SmartTag to all Android phones, assuming Samsung doesn’t shut it down

Samsung's Galaxy SmartTag is effective for item tracking, often outperforming Google’s Find My Device network, but is limited to Samsung Galaxy devices. A new app called “uTag” allows Galaxy SmartTags to be used with other Android smartphones by bypassing the device verification process. The app provides features such as item tracking on a map, location history, and ringing control, and can utilize Ultra Wideband technology for precise tracking. Users can enable integration with Samsung's network, receive alerts for unknown trackers, and access homescreen widgets. The app requires a Samsung account, which could pose concerns if Samsung intervenes. While Galaxy SmartTags are affordable, investing in them solely for use with “uTag” may be risky due to the app's uncertain longevity.
