The FAT32 file system, historically limited to a 32GB partition size due to a design choice by Microsoft engineer Dave Plummer, can inherently support volumes up to 2TB with a 512-byte sector size and theoretically up to 16TB with 4KB sectors. While Windows maintained this 32GB limit, motherboard manufacturers had already developed firmware to utilize larger FAT32 drives. Tools like Rufus and GUIFormat were used to format high-capacity media, as Windows did not allow direct FAT32 formatting for drives larger than 32GB. However, with the introduction of Windows 11 Insider Preview Builds 26220.8165 and 26300.8170, users can now format large flash drives and external volumes as FAT32 directly from the Command Prompt without third-party software.
Researchers at Cyble Research and Intelligence Labs (CRIL) have discovered an Android malware framework called MiningDropper, which is being used in various campaigns to distribute malicious payloads such as cryptocurrency miners, infostealers, Remote Access Trojans (RATs), and banking malware. Over 1,500 MiningDropper samples were detected in one month, with many showing minimal antivirus detection.
MiningDropper operates as a multi-stage delivery framework that employs techniques like XOR-based obfuscation and AES encryption to evade detection. A recent variant uses a trojanized version of the Lumolight application as the initial infection vector, often spread through phishing links and fraudulent websites. The malware executes a series of stages, starting with decrypting an embedded asset and loading additional payloads, including a counterfeit Google Play update interface to deceive users.
Two main campaign clusters have been identified: an infostealer campaign targeting Indian users by impersonating trusted entities, and a global campaign distributing the BTMOB RAT, which enables credential theft and device takeover. The final payload capabilities include extracting sensitive data, enabling full device compromise, facilitating financial fraud, and unauthorized cryptocurrency mining. MiningDropper's modularity allows it to adapt and scale across various campaigns while maintaining low detection rates.
Developers in mobile gaming are now more comfortable borrowing from different genres across the industry, resulting in games that offer a variety of experiences within a single title. Mobile games are designed to cater to different levels of commitment simultaneously, with simple mechanics for beginners and deeper systems for more serious players. The Play Store landscape is becoming less predictable as games borrow concepts from console design, PC live-service loops, tabletop mechanics, and social media behavior. The best mobile games are those that can accommodate multiple habits and playstyles, providing players with a diverse and versatile gaming experience.

Mariska Hargitay will make her Broadway debut in "Every Brilliant Thing" this spring. Facebook is experiencing significant user disruptions, with 44% of users reporting difficulties with comments and messaging, 22% unable to access the website, and 19% encountering app problems. Nearly 60% of Facebook Messenger users are facing issues related to sending and receiving messages, with 15% struggling to log in and 14% unable to access the Messenger website. There is no clear timeline for resolving these issues.
Meta will close its standalone Messenger website on April 16, requiring users to log in to their Facebook accounts to access messaging online. This change will primarily affect non-Facebook users, who will no longer be able to use Messenger via a web browser without creating a Facebook account. Businesses that used the standalone site will need to adjust their workflows, as they will now have to log into Facebook to access messages. This decision is part of Meta's strategy to integrate its messaging services more closely with the Facebook ecosystem.
Microsoft has lifted the FAT32 file system's volume limit in a recent preview version of Windows 11, allowing users to format storage devices with capacities of up to 2 terabytes, an increase from the previous maximum of 32 gigabytes. This change addresses a long-standing limitation that has existed since 1996. Additionally, Microsoft is enhancing the partition tool in Windows 11, improving its speed and responsiveness for managing multiple partitions. These updates are currently being tested in the Windows Insider Program, with no confirmed timeline for broader availability.
The Google Play Store does not include every app desired by users due to strict privacy, security, and content moderation policies, leading to the growth of third-party platforms and APK-based tools. Notable apps outside the Play Store include:
- BombitUp: A prank app that allows users to send multiple SMS messages, popular among younger users, but excluded from the Play Store due to potential misuse.
- 9Apps: An alternative app store developed by Alibaba Group, offering a variety of apps, games, and older versions of applications, particularly popular in regions lacking Play Store access.
- Snaptube: A video downloader for platforms like YouTube and Facebook, absent from the Play Store due to policy violations but sought after for offline video access.
- VidMate: A comprehensive video downloading app that also provides access to live TV, movies, and music, maintaining popularity despite not being available in official app stores.
- Honista: A modified version of Instagram that enhances privacy and customization options, appealing to users wanting more control over their social media experience.
- Lucky Patcher: A tool for advanced users that allows modifications to app permissions and ad removal, requiring technical knowledge and sometimes root access, leading to its exclusion from the Play Store.
- APKPure: An alternative app store that focuses on providing safe and verified APK files, emphasizing security and access to region-locked apps or older versions.
These applications cater to specific user needs that are often overlooked by mainstream platforms.
