Microsoft brings a long awaited “game changer” Windows 11 tool for IT admins

Microsoft announced enhancements for Windows 11 aimed at optimizing performance and resource utilization, potentially reconsidering the minimum system requirements. A new tool for IT administrators was introduced in the July Intune update (Service Release 2607), which includes native support for Registry Inventory. This feature allows administrators to assess system configurations more accurately, aiding in troubleshooting, compliance, and security. The Registry Inventory feature operates through Intune's Properties catalog, enabling administrators to monitor specific registry keys. Detailed reports are generated for each configured entry, providing information on registry key paths, value names, types, and data. The data collected is accessible from the Device inventory page, and the initial release supports common collection patterns for HKEYLOCALMACHINE (HKLM) registry paths. Registry Inventory is included with Microsoft Intune Plan 1. Other enhancements in the Intune update include management capabilities for Samsung firmware updates.

LG’s defense of installing adware on Windows 11 proves the company is hopeless

LG faced scrutiny after an investigation revealed that certain LG monitors triggered an automatic download of the LG Monitor App Installer via Windows Update without user consent. Microsoft intervened, urging LG to stop distributing what was referred to as adware. LG has since halted this practice but faced criticism regarding its response and transparency. Russian Mobile Carriers Waive Data Fees for State-Backed Max Messenger

Major mobile carriers in Russia, including MTS, MegaFon, Beeline, and T2, have agreed to zero-rate data usage for the domestic Max messenger, effective August 1. This initiative aims to promote the state-approved platform and discourage the use of foreign messaging apps. Subscribers will have free access to voice calls, messaging, file transfers, and other services within the Max app. Since its launch in spring 2025, Max has been integrated into state digital services and mandated to be pre-installed on all smartphones sold in Russia, resulting in nearly 70 million daily active users. This announcement follows EU sanctions against VK, the app's developer, due to allegations of its connections with the Russian FSB and surveillance capabilities, leading to the removal of VK and Max from Apple and Google app stores.

Users of non-Samsung Android phones are unable to access these health features, which are critical for many individuals.

Prerequisites for migration include having a source PostgreSQL 10.4+ on Amazon EC2, a target RDS for PostgreSQL or Aurora PostgreSQL, proper IAM roles, stored credentials in Secrets Manager, and appropriate networking configurations. The migration involves preparing the source database, creating necessary users and permissions, and executing the migration through the RDS console. Post-migration, it is essential to verify data integrity, optimize performance by updating statistics and rebuilding indexes, and implement security best practices such as disabling the DMS user and enforcing SSL/TLS connections. Common troubleshooting errors during migration include permission issues, incorrect WAL levels, and connection refusals, each with specific resolutions. Finally, to avoid ongoing charges, it is recommended to clean up resources created during the migration process, including deleting the DMS migration task, logical replication publications, Secrets Manager secrets, and the target RDS/Aurora instance.
