Windows 11 users can now reposition the taskbar to the top or either side of the screen in the latest Insider Preview builds. This feature is currently available to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel, with a broader rollout expected with the September Patch Tuesday update. Additional enhancements include a more customizable Start menu, improved Windows Search, and a faster File Explorer. Users can choose between small or large Start menu sizes, recent items are highlighted, and search functionality has been refined for better clarity. Google is testing a new feature in its Play Store called “Expand everything,” which automatically expands search results to provide more information about apps without needing to manually expand each result. This feature, found in the “Play Labs” section, displays search results in an expanded format by default, changing the arrow icon from an expander to a collapsible tool. While it offers more detailed information, it occupies more screen space, resulting in fewer visible results. Users can enable or disable this feature by navigating to the “Play Labs” option in their profile settings. The rollout is gradual, with limited access for users currently, but it is expected to become more widely available soon.

A security vulnerability is affecting Android devices from various manufacturers, requiring direct access to the device, which poses a risk if a smartphone is lost or stolen. Users are advised to restrict Gemini's access to the lock screen by disabling options related to Gemini on the lock screen and limiting its access to specific applications. Google has confirmed a solution to this issue, which will be implemented through an Android update later this week, and users are encouraged to keep their Android version up to date.

Google has rolled out updates for three system applications on Samsung Galaxy devices: Android System SafetyCore (version 0.925574157), Android System WebView (version 149.0.7827.91), and Google Play Services (version 26.22.33). These updates are not listed in the "Available updates" section of the Play Store and may require manual updating. Android System SafetyCore helps protect users from unwanted content, Android System WebView is essential for displaying web content in apps, and Google Play Services manages various functions like app updates and user privacy settings. To manually update these apps, users should go to Settings > Apps, select the app, and tap "App details in store" to access the Play Store. If other apps are not updating, users should ensure a stable internet connection, restart the phone, clear storage space, update the Android version, clear app caches, and check the system date.
