Grand Theft Auto 6 leaker who was given an indefinite sentence in 2023 because he wouldn’t stop hacking is now out of hospital and awaiting retrial

Arion Kurtaj, previously involved in high-profile cyberattacks as part of the hacking group Lapsus$, has been transferred from a secure hospital facility to a standard prison while awaiting retrial. At 18, he was found liable by a UK court for cyber intrusions targeting major corporations, notably leaking 90 videos of Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2022. Initially held under police protection with limited technology access, he was sentenced to a secure hospital pending a medical assessment. This assessment has concluded, allowing his transfer to prison. Kurtaj's retrial is scheduled for November, coinciding with the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Windows 10 just got a big security update. Here’s who gets it

Microsoft released update KB5099539 for Windows 10, enhancing security and addressing vulnerabilities. This update is part of a broader initiative for Windows 10 22H2, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021, and Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021. It will be automatically installed on eligible systems, resulting in build number 19045.7548. The update resolves issues in File Explorer related to OneDrive shortcuts and erroneous error messages during file deletions, as well as fixes for keyboard shortcut malfunctions. Windows 10 PCs will receive updated Secure Boot certificates, which are essential for system integrity, with Microsoft actively rolling these out. Secure Boot certificates for most Windows devices are set to expire starting in June 2026. Users must be enrolled in the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program to benefit from the KB5099539 update, which provides continued support until October 12, 2027.

Nightmare Eclipse Drops ‘LegacyHive’ Windows Zero-Day

A security researcher known as Nightmare Eclipse has revealed a new unpatched vulnerability in Windows, named LegacyHive, which is a local privilege escalation flaw in the Windows User Profile Service. This vulnerability allows attackers to access and load user hives of other accounts, including administrators. Nightmare Eclipse has provided proof-of-concept exploit code that works on systems with Microsoft's July 2026 patches. The exploit initially did not require user credentials but now necessitates them for accessing other hives. Nightmare Eclipse has previously disclosed over half a dozen zero-day vulnerabilities affecting Microsoft products. Microsoft has not yet acknowledged the LegacyHive exploit.

OnePlus will continue software updates, all devices move to ColorOS with Android 17

OnePlus will discontinue its OxygenOS interface and transition to Oppo's ColorOS, starting with the rollout of Android 17 updates across all active OnePlus devices. Users will have the option to voluntarily update to ColorOS, which aims to streamline software development and improve update delivery and quality. Older OnePlus models not eligible for the Android 17 update will still receive maintenance support for existing OxygenOS versions. Users who update to ColorOS will have the option to roll back to OxygenOS. OnePlus has assured that all existing devices will continue to receive software updates and security patches. Additionally, Realme has also confirmed its transition to ColorOS with the Android 17 update.

Windows Netlogon Flaw CVE-2026-41089: CVSS 9.8 [2026]

CVE-2026-41089 is a critical vulnerability in the Windows Netlogon service, rated 9.8 on the CVSS scale, allowing unauthenticated attackers to execute arbitrary code with SYSTEM-level privileges on domain controllers. It affects all supported versions of Windows Server configured as domain controllers, from Windows Server 2012 R2 to the latest release. Microsoft addressed this vulnerability on May 12, 2026, during a broader update that included 138 fixes, but it went largely unnoticed until early June when active exploitation was confirmed. The vulnerability is characterized as a stack-based buffer overflow and is considered "wormable" due to its ability to self-propagate across systems without user intervention. Organizations are advised to patch all domain controllers and audit network access to mitigate exposure.

Russia’s Max Messenger Removed From Google Play

Max, a messaging application launched by VK in 2025 and endorsed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, was removed from Google’s Play marketplace on July 16, 2023. The app does not provide end-to-end encryption, raising concerns about government access to user communications. This removal is part of a trend affecting other VK-owned applications, coinciding with recent EU sanctions targeting VK Company and its subsidiary Communication Platform LLC, which oversees the Max app. The EU characterized Max as having extensive surveillance features used against critics of Russia's military actions in Ukraine. Apple also removed Max from its App Store in June without explanation. Max aims to be an all-encompassing platform for messaging, social media, digital identification, payments, banking, and government services, which critics say could enhance government monitoring of citizens. Microsoft is ending support for some versions of Windows 10 and 11 soon

Microsoft has extended support for Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) until October 2027. Windows 11 version 24H2 will reach end of support on October 13, 2026, along with Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016. Windows 11 versions typically offer 24 months of support for Home and Pro editions, while Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 had five years of mainstream support followed by five years of extended support. Windows 11 version 23H2 is also expected to sunset around the same time. Users on Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro are recommended to upgrade to version 25H2, with version 26H2 anticipated soon. Windows 11 Enterprise and Education SKUs of version 24H2 have an extra year of support until October 12, 2027. Organizations using Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB 2016 should consider transitioning to Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2024 or purchasing ESUs separately.

A Brazilian PC Game Is Being Remade On The Sega Master System, With A Cartridge Release “Made The Old School Way”

The Sega Master System, nearly four decades after its debut, is supported by a homebrew community that produces new content. A notable project is Devwill, a Master System port of a 2017 PC game by Brazilian developer Amaweks. Devwill is an arcade-style platformer featuring a golem on a quest, with gameplay involving combat against the undead and navigating challenging environments. Following its initial release, a sequel called Devwill Too was launched in 2019. Amaweks is set to release a cartridge version of Devwill on August 5, 2026, through LMS Retro, with a European version to be distributed by Teknamic. The game will include a hand-drawn manual, and a trailer showcasing in-game footage and stop-motion animation has been released.
