Microsoft has acknowledged an issue affecting some Windows 11 users utilizing virtual desktops, where a black screen appears after sign-in, requiring manual launch of Explorer to regain access. This glitch is linked to devices operating on the August 2026 non-security preview update or later. It has been predominantly observed on Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) hosts using FSLogix, with crashes of Windows Explorer noted in the Application event log. A temporary workaround involves using Task Manager to initiate explorer.exe as a new task. Microsoft has implemented a Known Issue Rollback (KIR) via Group Policy to disable the problematic change until a permanent fix is released. Versions 26H1, 25H2, and 24H2 of Windows 11 are affected, while Windows 10 and Windows Server do not appear to be impacted.

Official representatives of the Silent Hill series have acknowledged technical challenges with the PC versions of Silent Hill: Townfall and are working on a patch to address performance issues reported by early users. This update will target the game versions on Steam and the Epic Games Store, with a release date to be announced once finalized. Players have reported significant frame rate drops, frequent stutters, and unstable optimization, with some experiencing processor temperatures reaching 90°C and spiking at 100°C. There are concerns about refund requests and negative impacts on user ratings due to the lack of fixes since the launch of version 1.0. Despite these issues, some players appreciate the game's atmosphere and gameplay. The development team is prioritizing the resolution of these performance problems, with updates to be provided on the studio's official website and social media.

Microsoft announced that the Home and Pro editions of Windows 11 version 24H2 will stop receiving updates after October 13, 2026. The Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 11 24H2 will continue to be supported until October 12, 2027. Windows 11 SE will also reach its end of support in October 2026, with no feature updates after 24H2. Users are encouraged to upgrade to Windows 11 version 25H2 to extend their support window until October 2027. The upgrade requires Windows 11 version 24H2 and a specific cumulative update. If users do not upgrade, Microsoft will automatically push the 25H2 update to unmanaged Home and Pro devices.

A new tool named BigDiskBuster has been released on GitHub, which disrupts Microsoft Defender Antivirus by preventing it from installing updates. It does this by consuming available disk space during the update process, causing Defender to remain on its current version and unable to receive new platform or signature updates. BigDiskBuster operates as a local denial-of-service technique and requires prior access to the target machine to execute. The tool was created by researcher Abdelhamid Naceri, known as Nightmare Eclipse, who has previously worked on similar projects. As of now, there is no CVE identifier, patch, or advisory from Microsoft regarding this issue.

The Android development community has historically addressed memory optimization reactively, but new performance requirements from Google Play, effective February 2027, emphasize proactive memory management. These requirements include metrics for dynamic memory usage, bitmap memory, and DEX code optimization, with apps needing at least 25% optimization coverage. Memory usage can now hinder releases even without local crash replication, necessitating its integration into the pre-production process alongside other performance metrics. Dynamic memory usage is defined as anonymous RSS plus swap, excluding file-backed data. Google Play will evaluate this across different application states and device performance categories. Bitmap memory is scrutinized for the retention of invisible bitmaps, and DEX optimization aims to reduce memory footprint and improve performance. Investigating memory growth involves using Android Studio’s Memory Profiler to monitor memory changes during specific user flows and conducting heap dumps to identify retained objects. Issues often arise from retained state, where components hold onto callbacks that reference image data, necessitating a focus on lifecycle management rather than merely cache size. Bitmap memory should be carefully managed, as the decoded size can significantly exceed the compressed file size. Downsampling images to match UI dimensions is crucial. Memory checks should occur before production, with a focus on establishing a memory budget based on actual measurements and defining representative memory scenarios for testing. A pre-release memory checklist includes running user flows repeatedly, testing on various devices, inspecting heap dumps, examining image configurations, and reviewing optimization metrics. Monitoring Android vitals and Play Console warnings is essential to detect potential issues before they lead to user-reported crashes.

Google Keep for Android has redesigned its "Note collection" widget, replacing the traditional Material You sidebar with a circular floating action button that opens a pop-up menu for note creation. This change requires an additional tap to select the note type but aligns with the design of the "Quick capture" widget. The new layout maximizes widget space, allowing for an edge-to-edge presentation of notes and reducing empty space. This update is part of version 5.26.365.x, currently being rolled out via the Play Store. The redesign aims to standardize the note creation process across widgets and improve the overall user experience.
