Powerful Windows 11 app Wintoys just got significantly better with long list of improvements

Microsoft has enhanced the Windows experience with utilities like the Media Creation Tool and PowerToys, while third-party applications like Wintoys, an unofficial counterpart to PowerToys, have also been updated. The latest version of Wintoys features performance improvements from upgrades to .NET 10 and Windows App SDK 2.3.1, resulting in a 30% reduction in RAM usage on the Services page, a 20% decrease on the Apps page, and a 10% improvement on the Startup entries page. Key updates include the ability to enable or disable the recommended section in the Start menu, manage recent items tracking, and a new Device metadata option to prevent unauthorized app installations. The Services page has been rewritten for better memory usage and real-time updates. Additional improvements include enhanced keyboard navigation, new acrylic backdrop features for Windows 10 and 11, and various bug fixes for system settings, network stats, and overall stability. Your Android’s System Data Now Takes Up Cloud Storage Space – Here’s How To Disable It

Google has introduced granular backup settings for Android users, allowing them to manage data preservation more effectively. Users can disable cloud backups entirely and selectively choose which data sources or applications to back up. To adjust these settings, they can go to Settings > Google (or Google Services) > Other Device Data and toggle off the backup option. When cloud backups are disabled, app settings, call history, SMS messages, and media files will not be saved unless enabled individually. Backed-up data remains on Google's servers until manually deleted. If users exceed their cloud storage limit, they will face restrictions, such as being unable to send or receive emails in Gmail or back up photos to Google Photos. With cloud backups disabled, new devices will not automatically restore data from Google's cloud services. Users can expand their Google account storage by subscribing to Google One, with plans starting at .99 per month for 100GB. An active Google One subscription offers additional perks, including sharing benefits with family and access to enhanced Google Workspace features.

Windows 11 – The system restore that also includes your files

Since June 23, Microsoft has been implementing a point-in-time restore feature on Windows 11, which is enabled by default for Home and Pro editions when the system drive exceeds 200 GB. This feature captures a complete snapshot of the machine approximately every 24 hours using the Volume Shadow Copy service, including system, applications, settings, and local files. Users can revert to a previous state in case of issues, but restoring from a snapshot older than 48 hours will erase all changes made since then, except for OneDrive data. The feature retains snapshots for up to 72 hours and reserves 2% of drive space, capped at 50 GB. If free space drops below 20 GB, older snapshots are deleted. Restoration occurs locally through WinRE, and users need a BitLocker recovery key if the drive is encrypted. After a restore, the feature pauses and requires user consent to resume. Snapshots from upgraded editions are not accessible, and only the Enterprise edition allows adjustments to snapshot settings. The feature can be disabled in system settings. It is not a backup solution, and users are advised to maintain separate backups for important files.
