Nothing OS 5.0 brings a new Glyph Interface app and a more customizable homescreen

Android 17 introduces new features such as enhanced quick share capabilities and 3D emojis, but users of older Nothing devices will not receive this update. Nothing OS 5.0 includes a design that allows app icons and widgets to adopt adaptive colors from the user's wallpaper, alongside Android's Dynamic Colors. The open beta for the update launches on August 26th, starting with the Nothing Phone 3, while Phone 1, Phone 2, and CMF Phone 1 will not receive the update. Enhancements in Nothing OS 5.0 include homescreen customization options, the Away Time widget for tracking phone inactivity, refined Essential AI features, and a new app for glyph interface lighting controls. Lockscreen clockfaces can now reflect the wallpaper's palette, with new designs available. Key features include the Geist system typeface, Collector widget for transforming images into icons, multi-select functionality for app icons, animated status bar icons, single-tap Bluetooth controls, and Essential AI updates.

Google Play Store Could Soon Let You Search for Apps With Images

Additionally, Google is exploring modifications to the Ask Play interface on individual app pages, potentially replacing the current "Ask Play about this app" section with a horizontal row of suggested questions. These features are currently in development and not yet publicly available.

Commodore Announces Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection for PC, Consoles

Commodore is set to launch the Alien Breed 35th Anniversary Collection, featuring the original six titles from the series, reimagined for modern platforms including PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Switch 2. The collection includes enhancements such as dual-stick control support, new game modes (Horde and co-op Rush), save states, screen filters, and rumble support. The titles included are Alien Breed, Alien Breed: Special Edition 92, Alien Breed 2: The Horror Continues, Alien Breed: Tower Assault, Alien Breed: 3D, and The Killing Grounds. A virtual museum will also be part of the collection, showcasing original media and insights into cancelled projects. The release is scheduled for September 24 on Steam, GoG, and the Epic Games Store, with availability on Xbox and PlayStation, while Nintendo Switch users will see it in Fall 2026. The collection will not be available for current or historical Commodore hardware.

Fake Microsoft security scans trick victims into uninstalling their antivirus

A surge of fraudulent websites claiming to verify antivirus software functionality has emerged, using the name SysScan and misleadingly asserting that Windows no longer supports third-party antivirus solutions. These sites conduct fake security scans, gather personal information, and set up a refund scam. Eleven such websites were found hosted on a single server, executing similar deceptive tactics. They can access basic browser data but cannot conduct genuine security scans. Microsoft continues to support third-party antivirus software, and legitimate refund processes do not require uninstalling security tools. The scams instruct users to remove their antivirus software to facilitate further manipulation and to collect information about the antivirus in use. The customer information forms collect extensive personal data and are designed to send this information to a Telegram bot API. Victims are promised a refund call after submitting their information, which is part of the scam's manipulation. Signs of such scams include claims of deep problems with the computer, consistently negative diagnostic results, requests to uninstall antivirus software, and demands for banking information. If affected, victims should disconnect from the internet, remove remote-access tools, and contact their bank. The hosting IP address for these sites is 157.230.180.90, with multiple associated domains listed.
