Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 11 version 26H2 will be the last version to support devices with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 850 processors. The Snapdragon 850, introduced in 2018, was the first chip specifically designed for Windows. While devices with the Snapdragon 850 can still install the current update, they will not be eligible for the upcoming version 27H2. Windows 11 version 26H2 will receive support for 24 months, after which devices using the Snapdragon 850 will no longer have official support, posing potential security risks.

Microsoft has unveiled Windows 11 26H2, an "enablement package" designed for quicker installation. There is no direct upgrade from Windows 11 26H1, which was only for Snapdragon X2 Arm devices, but users with versions 25H2 or 24H2 can upgrade easily. The rollout is gradual, and users can check eligibility via Settings > Windows Update. The update can also be accessed through Microsoft's Download Windows 11 website. Version 26H2 compiles feature and security updates from the past year, including enhancements like a customizable Start menu, improved Windows Search, and better support for fingerprint readers. Support for version 23H2 has ended, 24H2 will end on October 13, 2026, and 25H2 will end on October 12, 2027. Version 26H2 will receive support until October 10, 2028.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 850 will no longer be compatible with Windows 11 following the upcoming update to version 27H2. The last supported update for the Snapdragon 850 will be Windows 11 version 26H2, which promises 24 months of support, including essential security updates. After this period, devices powered by the Snapdragon 850 will not receive further patches. Microsoft has previously ceased support for the older Snapdragon 835, and while there is no official explanation for the Snapdragon 850's discontinuation, there is a possibility that it may still function with future updates despite lack of support.

Russian cybersecurity firm Positive Technologies has identified 11 security vulnerabilities affecting Android and Apple devices, with nine related to Apple and two to Android, classified as high severity. The Android vulnerabilities include one that allows attackers to exploit an NFC tag to execute an app without owner approval and another that lets installed apps modify network settings without additional permissions. Google has addressed these issues in its September 2026 security patches. For Apple, vulnerabilities include a macOS flaw that allows malicious apps to gain the highest system privileges and another that exposes sensitive information. Apple has released patches for these vulnerabilities, but specific OS versions affected have not been disclosed. Users are advised to ensure their devices have the latest security updates to mitigate risks.

Microsoft is initiating a 12-month retirement period for support of Windows PowerShell 5.1 for the Microsoft Graph PowerShell SDK due to maintenance challenges. Organizations using Graph PowerShell automation on Windows PowerShell 5.1 may face disadvantages, as existing scripts will remain operational but will miss platform-specific bug fixes. Microsoft encourages a transition to PowerShell 7.x, which will be the focus of Graph PowerShell v3.0, set to launch in Q4 2026. During the retirement phase, Graph PowerShell v2.x will remain operational and receive security updates. Transitioning to the new SDK version may require migration planning, script validation, and runtime upgrades, especially for organizations with dependencies on older PowerShell runtimes or outdated components.

Microsoft's Windows 10 update "KB5126256," intended as a licensing preparation package for Extended Security Updates, has caused issues for users, including one Reddit user whose File Explorer crashes when clicking on files due to the automatic activation of the Copilot feature. The crashes were misleadingly attributed to Microsoft Edge, but further investigation revealed they were linked to "mscopilot_proxy.exe" and the module "ShellEh6055x64.dll," associated with the 4t Tray Minimizer application. Users have reported that uninstalling problematic updates can provide temporary relief, while some have chosen to disable updates entirely, despite Windows not offering a complete option to do so.

The September update for Windows 11 caused significant disruptions, including failures in USB audio functionality and the File History feature. This follows a trend of issues over the past months, with August experiencing printer and PDF problems, July affecting certain Dell PCs, and June reporting startup issues and BitLocker recovery failures. In total, eight out of nine months this year have had at least one major issue. A recurring BitLocker user lockout problem has also been noted. Despite these issues, Windows 11 has improved in overall stability, with fewer system crashes. Windows 10 has maintained stability by focusing solely on security updates since support ended in October 2025, avoiding new feature rollouts. Users satisfied with Windows 10's features may prefer to stay with it for stability. Windows 11 users facing instability can roll back updates or use the Known Issue Rollback feature to revert problematic non-security features.
