Microsoft is transforming Windows into an "AI operating system" that will enable AI agents to perform tasks traditionally managed by humans, such as sending emails and scheduling meetings. During the Build 2026 developer conference, Microsoft introduced 'Scout,' an AI secretary that autonomously manages tasks and integrates with a system called MSIQ for organizational workflows. CEO Satya Nadella emphasized the creation of a workspace for AI agents within Windows, supported by a security framework called "MXC" to ensure controlled operation. Each AI agent will have a unique identity for accountability. Microsoft also unveiled seven proprietary AI models, including "MAI-Thinking-1," and a semiconductor called 'Maia 200,' which outperforms Nvidia's chips. Additionally, Microsoft is developing 'Project Solara,' a prototype for dedicated devices to facilitate AI interactions.

Samsung faces potential factory shutdowns due to a proposed strike involving over 43,000 workers in South Korea, which could lead to a 3-4% decline in global memory and NAND output. The Korean government has intervened, urging the union to reconsider the strike to maintain production capacity and quality. The workers' demands focus on compensation, specifically the removal of a cap on bonuses, as the company's profits reached 53.7 trillion won in the last quarter. A full-scale strike could cost Samsung up to 30 trillion won. The strikes are scheduled to begin on May 21 and last for 18 days, although ongoing negotiations may change this timeline.

One of the suspects in the China spy case allegedly used secure communication applications on 'burner phones' intended for Beijing agents. Christopher Berry and Chris Cash were charged with transmitting secrets to China between 2021 and 2023, but the trial collapsed due to the Government's failure to assert that China posed a national security threat at the time of the alleged offences, leading to their not guilty declaration. Berry was stopped at an airport in February 2023, and suspicious applications were discovered on his electronic devices, which contributed to the charges. Berry is accused of transferring about 34 files to a Chinese handler, with the information reportedly obtained by Cash, who worked for the China Research Group and as a Commons researcher. Both men were arrested in March 2023 under the Official Secrets Act for conveying information detrimental to UK safety and interests. Berry is suspected of sharing information about internal government disputes over the Newport Wafer Fab semiconductor factory and accommodations for MPs during a visit to Taiwan. British intelligence identified Berry and Cash after detecting UK-related information in the Chinese intelligence framework. The potential for a successful prosecution was noted by experts, who criticized the government's reluctance to address espionage efforts.
