Every household management app I tried came up short, so I built my own with Claude

American pilot Sean Torrente from Victory Team won the inaugural Grand Prix of Kyrgyzstan on August 2, 2026, part of the Formula 1 H2O World Championship. He completed 41 laps, finishing 4.731 seconds ahead of Swedish driver Erik Stark from Team Abu Dhabi, who secured second place, while Norwegian racer Marit Strømøy from Stromoy Racing finished third, 8.414 seconds behind Torrente. Torrente earned 20 points for his victory, with Stark and Strømøy receiving 15 and 12 points, respectively. My mother had a strong aversion to Windows 8 but eventually upgraded to Windows 10 and later embraced Windows 11. Windows 11 will soon update its File Explorer to display file sizes in KB, MB, and GB instead of just KB. This change is expected to be welcomed by many users, although some may find the adjustment challenging. There is a discussion about user preferences regarding changes in familiar features and the potential for Microsoft to retain legacy options alongside new enhancements.

Windows 11 Search is fixing its biggest annoyance, will find files in folders you actually use

Windows 11 Search is a crucial tool for users who create and download files, but it often struggles to find recently accessed files due to its indexing limitations. Microsoft is introducing a feature called “Automatically find additional relevant locations,” which will automatically identify and index folders based on user activity, reducing the need for manual indexing. Currently, Windows Search maintains an index focused on specific folders, which can lead to frustrations when files are not found. Users can manually add locations or switch to Enhanced mode for broader indexing, though this may result in irrelevant search results and increased resource usage. The new feature aims to streamline the search process by making significant folders searchable automatically while allowing users to block any unwanted folders. Additionally, Microsoft is enhancing Windows Search to better recognize typos and plans to disable Bing search and ads in results. These updates are expected to be rolled out later this year.

Windows 11: Movable and Smaller Taskbar in Beta Test

Microsoft is expanding the testing of its redesigned taskbar for Windows 11 to the Beta Channel of the Windows Insider Program with the release of Beta Build 26220.9022 on July 31, 2026. This update allows selected participants to reposition the taskbar along any edge of the screen—top, left, right, or bottom—and introduces a more compact variant that reduces icon size and overall height. Users can adjust their taskbar position through the Settings menu under Personalization, and Windows will adapt associated flyouts and animations accordingly. The implementation aims to restore flexibility lost when Windows 11 was launched, where the taskbar was fixed to the bottom of the screen. However, some features remain under development, and limitations exist for alternative positions, including incomplete touch gestures and a simplified search box. The compact taskbar feature currently only supports reduced height at the top or bottom positions. Microsoft is also exploring taskbar positioning across multiple monitors but has not guaranteed different positions for each screen. The recent updates include renewed certificates for the Windows Insider Program and additional builds, with the timeline for stable release of these taskbar adjustments still uncertain.
