In a noteworthy turn of events, Bethesda has announced the release of Oblivion Remastered for the Nintendo Switch 2, set to debut this August. While this news might not typically capture the attention of PC gamers who have already been delving into the enhanced realms of Cyrodiil for over a year, it does warrant a moment of reflection. Particularly, a recent promotional video for the Switch 2 version offers a fresh perspective that deviates from the standard game footage and dramatic voiceovers.
To celebrate this upcoming launch, Bethesda has enlisted the talents of Wes Johnson, a seasoned voice actor known for his roles throughout the Elder Scrolls series. Johnson reprises his vibrant portrayal of Sheogorath, the eccentric, cheese-loving deity, bringing a delightful dose of nostalgia to the promotional material. His return is especially heartening, as he has recently recovered from a serious medical emergency that saw him hospitalized and placed in an induced coma 18 months ago.
The reception to the promotional video has been largely positive, with many fans expressing joy at seeing Johnson back in character. However, an undercurrent of dissatisfaction lingers among viewers, primarily focused on the technical issues that have plagued the remaster on PC. Numerous Steam reviews highlight performance hiccups while navigating the expansive landscapes of Cyrodiil, alongside a multitude of bugs—some of which have persisted since the original release in 2006, while others are newly introduced.
Compounding these frustrations is the perception that Bethesda and its partner, Virtuos, may have shifted their focus away from the PC version of the game.
