Owners of Ubisoft console games on Xbox will be able to get the PC versions for free.

Microsoft has expanded its partnership with Ubisoft to enhance the gaming experience through two main initiatives. The Xbox app for PC will include premium editions and additional content for popular titles such as Assassin's Creed Shadows, Star Wars Outlaws, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, Skull and Bones, and Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, among others. Additionally, gamers who own digital copies of Xbox console games will gain access to free PC versions through Ubisoft Connect, with the transfer available only from console to PC. Eligible titles for this program include Assassin's Creed Mirage, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Far Cry 6, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, Riders Republic, Skull and Bones, The Crew 2, The Crew Motorfest, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, and Watch Dogs Legion. Consumables and in-game currency will not be included in the transfer.

Microsoft moves to end pirated Windows activations

Microsoft is introducing the KMS Hardware Secured system to enhance Windows licensing security by making unauthorized activation methods more difficult. This system will use TPM-based attestation to authenticate the server managing activation requests, ensuring only legitimate devices are recognized. Readiness notifications for Windows Server 2025 will begin in August 2026, allowing administrators to prepare for the transition to TPM-based attestation, which is expected to become a requirement for KMS activation in a future Windows Server release. This initiative targets corporate clients using Windows volume licensing to complicate unauthorized activation. Additionally, Microsoft plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 4,800 positions, or nearly 2.1% of its global staff, as part of a corporate transformation strategy.

Nightmare Eclipse Drops ‘LegacyHive’ Windows Zero-Day

A security researcher known as Nightmare Eclipse has revealed a new unpatched vulnerability in Windows, named LegacyHive, which is a local privilege escalation flaw in the Windows User Profile Service. This vulnerability allows attackers to access and load user hives of other accounts, including administrators. Nightmare Eclipse has provided proof-of-concept exploit code that works on systems with Microsoft's July 2026 patches. The exploit initially did not require user credentials but now necessitates them for accessing other hives. Nightmare Eclipse has previously disclosed over half a dozen zero-day vulnerabilities affecting Microsoft products. Microsoft has not yet acknowledged the LegacyHive exploit.
