How a ‘Minecraft’ song helped an Akron student find confidence

Jerimiah Worley, a fourth-grader at Bridges Learning Center, performed "Subwoofer Lullaby" at the school's third annual talent show, Bridges Got Talent, accompanied by music therapist Edie Steiner. Bridges Learning Center serves approximately 120 students with emotional or behavioral needs and provides tailored social-emotional and mental health support. Established in 2006, it has expanded to include a program for students up to 21 years old with significant cognitive disabilities. Principal Michele Angelo noted that some students spend their entire K-12 journey at Bridges, while others transition back to home schools after mentorship from the nearly 70-person staff. Last year, about 10 percent of students graduated, gaining skills from music and art therapy. Steiner, the district's sole music therapist, teaches students to explore lyrics and melodies that resonate with their experiences. The talent show allowed students to choose their audience, with guest judges providing encouragement. Jerimiah's aunt, Stasha Heller, expressed pride in his musical journey. Student artwork displayed in the cafeteria reflected emotional landscapes nurtured through art therapy sessions. Art therapist Shenan May provides students with tools for social-emotional wellbeing, including sensory items. Principal Angelo highlighted the significant progress made by students and staff, describing their improvements as life-changing. Steiner hopes the music created will foster meaningful conversations and be shared across generations.

Proton beam therapy comes to Minecraft to help children prepare for cancer treatment at The Christie

Android mental health apps with 14.7M installs filled with security flaws

Recent analysis by Oversecured identified 1,575 security vulnerabilities across ten mental health mobile applications, which include 54 high-severity, 538 medium-severity, and 983 low-severity issues. These apps, with over 14.7 million downloads, assist users with conditions like clinical depression and anxiety. Vulnerabilities include improper handling of user-supplied URIs, weak local data storage practices, and cryptographically weak session token generation. Six of the ten apps had no high-severity vulnerabilities, but medium-severity issues still pose risks to user privacy. The scans were conducted between January 22 and 23, 2026, and only four apps had received recent updates.

Highly Rated PC Vampire Game Now Available on PS5 & Nintendo Switch (& Xbox Is Coming Soon)

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines and V Rising are notable vampire-themed video games, while Vampire Therapist has gained attention for its narrative-driven adventure and therapeutic themes. Launched on PC via Steam in July 2024, it has received an Overwhelmingly Positive rating and various awards. The game features a gunslinger turned therapist helping vampires with cognitive behavioral therapy techniques and includes voice actors from titles like Hades and Baldur’s Gate 3. As of February 17th, Vampire Therapist is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch for .99 USD, with a 15% launch discount until March 3rd. An Xbox version is set to release on March 5th. The game is not yet supported on the Switch 2 due to progression issues.

Block by block: Johns Island middle school students bring future rec center to life in Minecraft

Sixth graders at Haut Gap Middle School designed a future recreation center for Johns Island using Minecraft as part of a month-long competition. The winning design, created by Colin White, Hart Anderson, Elijah Robertson, and Russell Thiem, was presented to the City Council. The center is planned to be a 50,000-square-foot facility featuring a 25-meter swimming pool, a therapy pool, a yoga studio, indoor courts for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball, as well as outdoor amenities like additional pickleball courts, a basketball court, a playground, and a splash pad. The students creatively adapted game elements in their designs, such as using spider webs for basketball netting and snowballs as basketballs. City Councilman Jim McBride acknowledged the importance of the students' input, and Mayor William Cogswell humorously requested a motion to approve the budget for the new center. The construction will be funded through a million bond referendum approved by voters in 2023, with an anticipated groundbreaking in October and an estimated 18-month construction timeline.
