RuneScape dev apologises after RuneFest debut of an AI-generated six-fingered character: ‘That’s pretty hard to explain away’

Jagex hosted its annual RuneFest in Birmingham, UK, where it unveiled a trailer for the Dragon Slayer 2 quest. The trailer featured noticeable flaws, such as a character with six fingers and unusual sneaker-like soles on their armoured shoes. Social media users pointed out the apparent use of generative AI in the trailer, prompting backlash against Jagex, especially after a recent controversy involving a clothing collaboration with 100 Thieves. Alec 'Mod Sween' Sween from Old School RuneScape acknowledged the issues, stating that the trailer had been taken down for urgent investigation. He clarified that it was produced by a trusted external partner who assured Jagex that generative AI would not be used. Sween emphasized the company's commitment to quality and announced plans to overhaul their review procedures and collaborate with community creators to ensure high standards for Dragon Slayer 2. He admitted that the team fell short of expectations and expressed concern over the incident highlighting weaknesses in their internal processes.

Super Mario Galaxy Is Getting an Unofficial PC Native Port

PC gamers have been playing Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 through a Nintendo Wii emulator since 2016. An unofficial native PC port of Super Mario Galaxy 1, codenamed AstroCore, is being developed by Luma’s Workshop, with a trailer showcasing the game running at 60 frames per second. The team plans to focus on Super Mario Galaxy 2 after completing necessary cleanup work. The projects will not include any in-game assets from the original games to avoid takedown requests from Nintendo. Various unofficial PC ports are already available, including Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. In September 2026, several unofficial PC ports were released, including Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link and Super Mario Strikers. The PC gaming community has a growing library of unofficial ports to look forward to.

This ambitious Half-Life 2 mod asks: what if Iron Lung had a submarine and an airship?

Iron Lung is an acclaimed indie horror game that has inspired a film adaptation by Markiplier. The genre of vehicular horror is largely unexplored, with few titles like Barotrauma and Klekta. The Temple is an upcoming total conversion mod for Half-Life 2 that allows players to navigate a horror-filled submarine and expands the experience into space. It is part of MapLabs and promises over two hours of gameplay, featuring three vehicles and a visually impressive environment. The mod includes elements inspired by Amnesia: The Dark Descent, such as invisible water monsters and a talking crow companion. The creator, Klems, has hinted at a potential release "very soon, possibly next month."

William Pugh, co-designer of The Stanley Parable, has over 1,600 hours in Dota 2: ‘It’s not a game made of love. It’s a game fuelled by hate and a desire to conquer’

William Pugh began his journey in PC gaming with shareware titles on Mac and has fond memories of playing Worms 4: Mayhem, which introduced him to online multiplayer. He later engaged with the Source engine mapping community through Team Fortress 2, where he collaborated with Davey Wreden to create The Stanley Parable. Currently, he is working on a project with Crows Crows Crows and producing the PS5 exclusive Hunter's Moon. Pugh is playing Deadlock, describing it as an improved version of Dota 2, which he has played for 1,603 hours but finds frustrating. He will never uninstall Team Fortress 2 and relies on Blender for non-gaming software, praising its open-source nature. His desktop is chaotic, reflecting his creative style, and he humorously keeps all his files since 2005 on physical hard drives.
