Microsoft is now force-upgrading all Windows 11 home PCs to 25H2

Microsoft is mandating an upgrade to Windows 11 version 25H2 for all Home and Pro PCs not managed by IT departments. Previously optional, this upgrade will now automatically transition devices running the outdated 23H2 to 25H2. The rollout will utilize machine learning for a seamless experience. Microsoft Confirms Windows 11 26H2 Update for x86-64 PCs

Microsoft has confirmed the release of the Windows 11 update version 26H2, designed for PCs with x86-64 processors from Intel and AMD. Microsoft's Secure Boot certificates, including the Microsoft Corporation KEK CA 2011, will expire on June 24, 2026, followed by the Microsoft UEFI CA 2011 on June 27 and the Microsoft Windows Production PCA 2011 on October 19. New certificates issued in 2023 will replace these older ones. While devices will continue to operate and receive standard Windows updates, they will gradually lose access to critical security updates that protect against boot-level threats. After June 24, the ability to sign new disallowed signature database payloads with the old KEK will be lost, reducing the capacity to revoke compromised bootloaders. Users are advised to keep Windows and firmware updates current, while enterprises may face challenges managing diverse machine inventories for updates.

However, binaries compiled in MSYS2 may depend on shared libraries not included in the Windows system path. Upon installation, users can choose from different terminal options, with the UCRT terminal recommended for its usability. MSYS2 facilitates a streamlined development workflow, enabling the use of familiar tools across multiple platforms, but it does not achieve perfect integration within Windows and has some limitations, such as issues with stdout output in Bash.
