Installing SteamOS requires a complete wipe of the NVMe SSD, and there is limited support documentation from Valve. Users have created guides to assist with installation, which involves adjusting BIOS settings and partitioning drives. Networking issues were encountered during installation, requiring command line updates and workarounds. SteamOS offers a console-like experience and a user-friendly interface for gaming, but it presents challenges for users who are not experienced with DIY setups.

Microsoft gives Windows 10 users a reprieve by extending security updates another year

Microsoft has extended the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for Windows 10 personal computers until October 12, 2027. The ESU program, launched in June 2025, was initially set to conclude in October 2026. Microsoft is now force-upgrading all Windows 11 home PCs to 25H2

Tested: Microsoft just debloated Windows 11 Search without Bing, and it’s crazy fast

Windows 11 has introduced a significant enhancement to its Search functionality, allowing users to completely eliminate web results through a toggle in Insider Experimental build 26300.8697. This feature prioritizes local results and improves search speed. The new toggles for Web Searches and Microsoft Store apps can be found in the Privacy & security settings under "Show suggested search results." Users can still see past web searches if the Search history toggle is active. The web toggle's deactivation leads to local files being displayed first, while the Microsoft Store results can be toggled independently. Disabling both toggles results in a "No results found" message if there are no local matches. The feature is currently experimental and requires enabling via ViveTool. Additional improvements include typo forgiveness for app queries and enhanced search responsiveness. Windows 11 Is Hiding A ‘God Mode’ Folder That Most Enthusiasts Would Love

Windows 11 features a "God Mode" folder, which serves as a centralized hub for accessing a wide range of Windows settings and utility tools that are typically scattered across the Control Panel. This feature is not officially designated by Microsoft but is popular among power users for its extensive access to settings. To create the God Mode folder, users must manually create a new folder on their Desktop and rename it to .{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}, which will transform the folder icon into the Control Panel icon. Inside the folder, settings are organized into collapsible sections, and a search bar allows for quick navigation. Users can double-click options to access specific settings, and while the folder cannot be pinned to the Start menu or taskbar, it can be accessed from the Desktop and frequently used settings can be dragged to the Desktop for convenience.

Microsoft Releases a Record Seven Windows 11 Insider Builds

Microsoft's Windows Insider program has released seven Insider builds across all Channels, including two builds on the Beta and Release Preview Channels and three builds for the new Experimental Channel. Microsoft is adding a new customizable Start menu to Windows 11: Here’s a first look

Microsoft has introduced customization enhancements for the Start menu in Windows 11, available in preview through the Windows 11 Insider Program. Users can now fully configure which segments of the Start menu are displayed, allowing them to toggle off individual segments: Pinned, Recommended, and All apps. Accessing these options can be done via the Windows Settings app or by right-clicking an empty space in the Start menu. The Recommended feed now allows users to specify the types of items displayed, such as excluding recommended apps while still viewing recent files and installed applications. Dell, HP PCs ran into endless reboot, BitLocker recovery loops but Windows 11 isn’t to blame

Dell confirmed that a bug in version 5.5.16.0 of its SupportAssist Remediation software is causing blue screen errors and system restarts. The issue is linked to the SupportAssist Remediation service, which operates independently from the main SupportAssist application. Dell has released an updated version, 5.5.16.1, to fix the problem. Affected users should check for version 5.5.16.0 in the Installed Apps section of Windows Settings and update their SupportAssist OS Recovery Tools. Users are advised to back up data and keep their systems powered during the update process. HP is facing issues related to Windows Secure Boot updates, causing boot problems and BitLocker recovery loops on affected devices. This occurs when new UEFI Secure Boot CA 2023 certificates fail to apply correctly. HP recommends updating to the latest BIOS version and configuring Secure Boot certificates before installing Windows 11 Patch Tuesday updates. For systems already experiencing issues, BIOS configuration changes may be necessary.
