‘Minecraft’ Official PC Requirement Now Raises Recommended Specs After Over 17 Years

Mojang has updated the minimum and recommended system requirements for "Minecraft: Java Edition." The new minimum requirements include a 64-bit system, 8GB of RAM with a discrete GPU (or 12GB with integrated graphics), a 4-core processor, a Vulkan 1.3-capable GPU with at least 2GB of VRAM, and compatible operating systems (Windows 10 64-bit, Windows on ARM, macOS 12 or later, Linux 64-bit) to support 1080p resolution at 30 FPS using the Fast preset. The updated recommended requirements include 16GB of RAM, a stronger processor, a graphics card with 6GB of VRAM, and compatible operating systems (Windows 11 64-bit, macOS 14 or later, Linux 64-bit) to aim for 1080p at 60 FPS using the Fancy preset. Mojang emphasizes that these new specifications are modest compared to many modern AAA titles and aim to provide players with a clearer understanding of the hardware needed for optimal performance. The update does not affect "Minecraft: Bedrock Edition" and players with older setups may still launch the game, but performance cannot be guaranteed.

LG’s monitors come with an unwanted addition for Windows: McAfee pop-up ads

The LG Monitor App Installer installs itself by default, resulting in unwanted ad notifications for users. When connecting a new LG UltraGear monitor to a Windows 11 PC, the LG driver updates and the Monitor App Installer are installed silently via Windows Update without user notification or permission. The app does not provide unique controls but redirects users to other LG applications and promotes McAfee antivirus. Complaints about the app's auto-installation have increased, particularly regarding large pop-up ads. Microsoft allows developers to pair a Hardware Support App with the Windows Store for automatic installation, but this can confuse users. Similar practices exist with Dell's Alienware Command Center app. Users can prevent the LG app from auto-installing through group policy settings or by opting out of automatic downloads in system settings. The LG Monitor App Installer requests extensive permissions and collects device data, internet activity, and geolocation information without explicit user consent.

You can’t fully disable Microsoft’s GDID Windows 11 tracker, but these settings limit what it captures

A 19-year-old named Peter Stokes was detained at Helsinki airport in April 2026 while traveling to Japan, carrying two 2TB hard drives. He was subject to an Interpol Red Notice and faced a federal complaint from U.S. prosecutors by July for his alleged involvement in the Scattered Spider hacking group, which breached a U.S. luxury jewelry retailer in May 2025, leading to a ransom demand. The Global Device Identifier (GDID), developed by Microsoft, is a persistent identifier that uniquely identifies a Windows installation on a device. It links online activities back to a single identity, which law enforcement can use to trace a device's owner. The GDID is generated when a user signs into Windows with a Microsoft Account and remains through updates but does not survive a clean reinstall. Stokes' use of the same Windows device allowed investigators to trace his activities through the GDID, which linked him to the hacking incident. Privacy advocates have raised concerns about the lack of consent for GDID assignment and the potential for surveillance.

Microsoft says it’ll force install Microsoft 365 Copilot on Windows 11 with MS 365 Business in the next 30 days
